Job Description Northwestern Medicine has an exciting opportunity for either a Physician Assistant or a Nurse Practitioner to work in our Emergency Medicine department.
Schedule: 3x12s; rotating days, nights, weekends, holidays.
Essential Functions
Demonstrate clinical expertise and expand knowledge through patient care activities such as diagnosis and management of a wide range of health problems.
Be responsible for health outcome of an assigned patient population.
Collaborate with physicians and other health professionals in the area of clinical expertise.
Develop appropriate educational systems for patients, families, and staff.
Mentor graduate students in aspects of advanced practice and patient care.
Actively participate in quality improvement and/or research pertinent to area of expertise.
Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive appraisal of patients' health status by taking histories and performing physical examinations in the clinical area.
Provide direct clinical care to patients.
Prescribe or order medications, therapies; order/interact laboratory tests, X‑rays and procedures according to clinical privileges.
Evaluate patients to determine need for further health care.
Provide comprehensive teaching to patients and families.
Document all care, education, and procedures performed in the medical record.
Refer to other disciplines as appropriate; consult in areas of expertise.
Integrate research‑based knowledge and clinical expertise in decision making.
Exemplify professional image in appearance, manner, and presentation.
Advocate for patients, families, coworkers, and the community.
Maintain certifications and continuing education as required for licensure and privileging.
Serve as patient advocate and role model for “Patients First”.
Participate in unit/departmental/divisional or hospital committees or task forces as appropriate.
Provide comprehensive teaching strategies for patients and families.
Develop and participate in programs to meet continuing education needs of staff.
Serve as a role model and preceptor to students.
Provide formal education to internal and external groups pertinent to area of specialty.
Participate in quality improvement and/or research initiatives for specific patient population as appropriate.
Qualifications Required
Master’s degree from an accredited school/college of nursing or a master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program.
Current license as a Registered Nurse or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois (or current license as a Physician Assistant in the State of Illinois); certification by a national certifying body approved by the Illinois APRN Board.
Privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO).
BLS, BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
Minimum of one (1) year of advanced practice provider experience.
