Responsibilities
Process incoming refill requests, authorizing and sending refills to patient pharmacies or delegating to clinicians when protocols are not met, ensuring each request fulfills the written protocol.
Receive and process refill requests via fax or electronic means, accurately documenting decisions in the EMR per policies and protocols.
Analyze EMR chart notes and verify required laboratory tests, reviewing renewal requests to confirm patient has a participating PRAC physician and appointments.
Notify prescribing providers of any unmet protocol criteria or monitoring parameters and notify appropriate entities if patient non‑compliance.
Quantify and report daily refill metrics to the supervising pharmacist (e.g., completed refills, unprocessed faxes, overnight arrivals).
Maintain accurate records, provide timely refills within 48 hours, and educate clinic staff on the refill workflow.
Update patients on refill status via phone or portal, answer calls professionally using scripts and clinical decision trees, and determine scope for renewal versus escalation.
Facilitate first‑contact resolution, route issues, and escalate to pharmacy manager when necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Graduation from an accredited Pharmacy Technician School.
At least 2 years of experience in retail or specialty pharmacy.
Self‑motivated with minimal supervision; knowledgeable in pharmacy calculations, fax, photocopier, voicemail.
Proficiency with Electronic Health Records and computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Ability to follow written medication protocols and perform refill quantity calculations.
Familiarity with electronic communication, e‑prescribing, and department policies.
Adaptability to change and teamwork; excellent customer service model.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a health‑related field; advanced degree preferred.
Required Licenses/Certifications
Active California Pharmacy Technician license (CPhT) in good standing.
Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) – card required within 30 days of hire, maintained by renewal before expiration (LA City only).
The hourly rate range for this position is $25.00 – $39.69.
