Postdoctoral Fellow

responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with a research team.

This position will support Dr. Kathleen Pratt's lab in the Department of Medicine at The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) in Bethesda, Maryland. The interdisciplinary lab focuses on proteins and mechanisms of hemostasis, including recently launched studies generating and characterizing iPSC‑derived platelets engineered to express supraphysiological levels of clotting or fibrinolytic factors for potential translation as agents for trauma resuscitation. Candidates with strong research interests in blood coagulation, platelet and endothelial cell biology, and advanced cell imaging projects are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

Assist in designing, developing, executing, and implementing scientific research and/or development.

Investigate the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories to potential inventions and products.

Perform specialized laboratory research utilizing experimental protocols involving specialized procedures.

Collect and handle samples and maintain detailed records of experiments.

Make scientific observations, maintain detailed workbooks/documentation, and ensure documentation fulfills generally accepted professional/industry standards.

Maintain clear and accurate laboratory records, inventories, and logbooks; perform data entry for research projects and maintain databases.

Assist with the preparation of data for presentations at scientific meetings and for publication in journals.

May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor, including attendance of and participation in required training for the role.

Qualifications Education and Experience

Doctoral degree in molecular or cell biology, biophysical chemistry, biochemistry, immunology, or a closely related field.

Minimum of 0–5 years’ experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of appropriate scientific area; ability to analyze and interpret data.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to troubleshoot technical procedures.

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following: platelet biology, blood coagulation and hemostasis, microfluidics assays, confocal microscopy.

Experience with standard cell culture, flow cytometry, and biochemical/biophysical methods.

Proficiency in cutting‑edge gene editing techniques, microfluidics assays to analyze clotting kinetics, confocal and multi‑photon microscopy, and various hemostasis‑related assays.

Ability to obtain and maintain a T1 Public Trust clearance.

Physical Capabilities

Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.

Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Position primarily in a laboratory setting.

Compensation

Annual salary range: $50,000–$70,000 (actual salary determined by experience, education, etc.).
