Program Manager – Meharry Medical College The Program Manager will oversee the planning, coordination, and implementation of strategic research and training initiatives in the Office for Research and Innovation. The program manager will ensure programs deliver effectively, milestones are achieved in time, budgets are monitored, and outcomes are aligned with programs specific institutional goals.

Responsibilities

Program Planning, Management, and Implementation

Lead the planning, execution, and monitoring of assigned research and training programs.

Develop and maintain project work plans, deliverables, and performance metrics.

Oversee timelines, milestones, and progress tracking for multiple concurrent projects.

Coordinate with Meharry leadership, faculty, and external partners to ensure program alignment with strategic priorities.

Budget and Resource Oversight

Develop and monitor program budgets in collaboration with Finance and Grants Management.

Track expenditures, prepare financial summaries, and ensure fiscal compliance with institutional and sponsor guidelines.

Identify and pursue opportunities for program sustainability and expansion through internal or external funding.

Stakeholder and Partnership Engagement

Serve as a primary liaison between Meharry and program collaborators, including academic institutions, funders, and community partners.

Facilitate cross-departmental communication and collaboration.

Organize advisory meetings, steering committees, and reporting sessions.

Data Collection, Reporting, and Evaluation

Oversee collection of program data, metrics, and participant outcomes.

Prepare quarterly and annual reports for leadership and external stakeholders.

Support evaluation and quality improvement activities, ensuring programs meet measurable impact goals.

Educational and Outreach Coordination

Collaborate with faculty and communication teams to promote program achievements and opportunities.

Coordinate student and trainee engagement, including recruitment, mentoring logistics, and professional development activities.

Contribute to dissemination efforts through website updates, presentations, and publications.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong leadership and organizational skills with demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and multiple priorities.

Excellent communication, writing, and interpersonal skills with ability to engage faculty, students, and external partners.

Analytical and data-driven decision-making with attention to detail and accountability.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools (e.g., Teams, Smartsheet, SharePoint), with strong PowerPoint design and presentation skills.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Experience managing academic, research, or federally funded programs.

Knowledge of grants management, reporting systems, and compliance requirements.

Ability to work independently while fostering collaboration across teams.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, education, public health, or related discipline.

Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in program or project management, preferably in an academic, research, or nonprofit setting.

Demonstrated experience in budget management, reporting, and stakeholder coordination.

Ph.D. in business administration, education, public health, or a related discipline, with 1–2 years of relevant experience in program or project management, preferably in an academic, research, or nonprofit setting.

Master’s (M.S.) in a related discipline, with 2–3 years of relevant experience.
