Fleet Maintenance Manager

The Manager is responsible for overseeing fleet equipment at one or more locations and managing a team of technicians in preventive maintenance and repair of a fleet of up to 60 vehicles (diesel and alternative fuel). Additional responsibilities may include maintenance of equipment and machinery at post‑collection facilities and management of container shops. The role ensures all repairs and maintenance comply with the company’s safety and maintenance standards and federal and state regulations. The Manager plans and schedules repair work to ensure safe and timely completion, increasing shop productivity while reducing lost productivity.
Principal Responsibilities
Provide direction to all technician levels, overseeing the planning and scheduling of all repair work, monitoring shop performance, and implementing procedures for process improvements.
Manage lead technicians and maintenance supervisors, overseeing daily huddles and coaching, making hiring and termination decisions in concert with HR, overseeing training and performance evaluations, and approving merit increases and promotions.
Maintain an ongoing preventive maintenance program, identifying trends in road calls and breakdowns, overseeing facility maintenance, and controlling maintenance costs related to personnel, purchasing, inventory, and outsourced repairs.
Manage outside repair facilities to ensure work is completed in accordance with safety and compliance procedures and regulations, following up as necessary and providing corrective action where needed.
Conduct quality‑control inspections, track issues, and ensure all work is completed to safety and compliance standards.
Maintain advanced knowledge of engine, emission, transmission, brake, hydraulic, and electrical systems to manage preventive and repair maintenance of heavy equipment and vehicles.
Handle related administrative matters including payroll, employee records, maintenance logs, data entry into Dossier Maintenance Software, budgeting, and departmental goal setting aligned with leadership objectives.
May require local travel.
Qualifications
Knowledge of basic computer skills and Microsoft Office.
Advanced root‑cause problem solving.

Strong customer‑service orientation.
Ability to anticipate business needs and plan resources strategically.
High level of analytical skill to develop solutions for a wide range of issues.
Organizational skills.

Good financial management and planning skills; understanding of budgets and reports.
Automotive Service Excellence with relevant certifications (T2 Diesel Engine, T Master Certified, T3 Drive, T4 Brake, T5 Suspension and Steering).
High school diploma or G.E.D.
Minimum Requirements
A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Maintenance Supervisor in the transportation industry with thorough knowledge of safe working practices (OSHA Haz‑Com, Lock‑Out/Tag‑Out, Fire Safety and other federal and state regulations).
