Overview
Leads crews responsible for performing statewide Metal Beam Guard Fence (MBGF) repair and installation, transportation maintenance work and emergency response. Work involves extensive travel across the state of Texas. Reports to Maintenance Regional Crew Branch Manager. Works with districts and law enforcement. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Essential Duties
Operates light and heavy equipment.
Performs some maintenance and repair on equipment and trains crew members on the use of equipment.
Make repairs and installs Metal Beam Guard Fence.
Coordinates crew coverage for transportation maintenance assignments with branch manager.
Travels to work assignments and evaluates materials and equipment needed for maintenance work or emergency response.
Coordinates regional maintenance crew efforts with district staff and law enforcement, assesses and implements mitigation strategies.
Provides direction to crew members in execution of assignments, to include emergency response efforts; and certifies crew timesheet accuracy before submission for entry.
Coordinates the deployment of materials and equipment necessary to complete assignments.
Maintains records on materials and equipment.
Leads and trains crew member and district staff on equipment use, material application, etc.
Ensures safe work environment in compliance with safety policies and procedures using appropriate tools and equipment for tasks.
Coordinates crew coverage for Metal Beam Guard Fence or other general transportation maintenance assignments with branch manager.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned, to include assisting Pavement crew or Striping; or maintaining or repairing equipment.
Minimum Qualifications Education : High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.
Experience : 5 years roadway maintenance, roadway striping, highway construction or related experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications : Must have a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at the time of hire. This position requires driving a state vehicle and heavy equipment.
Competencies Extensive knowledge of
Methods, procedures, equipment, and materials used in intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance work.
The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes.
Expert skill in
Scheduling work assignments.
Leading, assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others.
Coordinating labor, materials, and equipment.
Using applicable hand and power tools, equipment, and mechanical devices of the trade.
Operating light and heavy highway equipment.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour.
Subject to noise.
Subject to vibration.
Subject to hazards-moving vehicles/mechanical parts, high places/heat, or chemicals.
Subject to atmospheric conditions-fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation.
Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools.
Medium work: Lift up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs.
Kneeling-bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee(s).
Lifting-raising objects from lower to higher position/horizontally to a different position.
