Salary Range: $5,815.42 – $7,461.30

(commensurate with experience and qualifications)

Mental Health Clinician - Purpose Under clinical supervision, the Mental Health Clinician provides assessment and diagnosis for clients with dual diagnosis, offers individual, group, and family psychotherapy, prepares service and coordination plans, documents clinical outcomes, and acts as an advocate.

Mental Health Clinician - Principal Responsibilities

Provide individual, group, and family therapy to persons with a developmental disability diagnosed with severe mental illness.

Utilize professional education and training to diagnose and treat clients’ mental illnesses.

Provide psychotherapy to empower clients to identify and manage psychiatric symptoms, enabling maximum functional participation in the larger community.

Constantly assess clients for potential harm to self or others, or potential victimization, and take appropriate measures to maintain safety, including initiating involuntary hospitalizations when necessary.

Provide 24‑hour on‑call crisis intervention.

Advocate for clients with other agencies and educate these agencies to recognize and address the needs of clients with developmental disabilities and mental illness.

Develop relapse prevention strategies with clients and their support systems to reduce future psychiatric hospitalizations and loss of community placements.

Participate as an integral part of a multidisciplinary team designed to meet clients’ psychiatric and psychological needs.

Regularly attend training to stay current and maintain licensure.

Maintain appropriate treatment records and documentation as required.

Perform other duties as assigned to assure program efficiency.

Mental Health Clinician - Minimum Qualifications Candidate must be enrolled in a Master’s or Doctoral degree program (MSW, MFT, PhD) eligible for licensure to provide psychotherapy by the Board of Behavioral Science Examiners or the Board of Psychology.

Mental Health Clinician - Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Basic computer skills in word processing and spreadsheet application.

Ability to observe, evaluate, document, and communicate verbally and in writing.

Ability to accept supervision and work cooperatively as a team member with co‑workers, clients, and community resources.

Knowledge of disabilities and the biological, psychological, and social models.

Ability to use critical thinking skills in decision‑making situations, maintain good organizational and record‑keeping skills, and exercise independent judgment.

Knowledge of psychotherapy.

Knowledge and understanding of multidisciplinary team and family dynamics.

Ability to be flexible with scheduling and task prioritization.

The work environment typically involves long periods of sitting, some computer use for record keeping, periods of intense concentration, occasional travel to satellite locations, and exposure to outdoor conditions.
