Position Summary The Director for Academic Advising reports to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs/ Dean of Students (AVP/DOS), and supervises the daily and ongoing operation of the Academic Advising Center. The Director collaborates with program coordinators and other campus colleagues to ensure seamless student service delivery, including but not limited to overseeing and managing First Year Programming, the Second Year Success Program, Undeclared/Expressed Interest Advising, Drop-In Advising and other advising programs and initiatives.
Additional Information FLSA:
Exempt (Not eligible for overtime compensation. This position is eligible for full benefits.)
Anticipated Hiring Range:
$9,000 per month - $9,563 per month, commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training
CSU Classification Salary Range:
$5,053 per month - $16,221 per month
Work Hours:
Monday to Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Hours may vary depending on operations. May include occasional evenings and weekends.
Department Information Academic Advising Center offers mandatory freshman advising, and general education and graduation requirement advising for all students. The Center engages students in a developmental process that helps them clarify and implement individual educational plans consistent with their skills, interests, and values.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience.
Five years of professional experience in college or university student services, including two years professional experience in academic advising or a related service
Experience working with students, faculty, staff, and administrators from diverse groups
Experience supervising professional staff
Experience with and responsibility for program development and assessment
Experience motivating and managing work teams to design, implement, and evaluate programs
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of budget and strategic planning
Extensive knowledge of student development theory and academic advising best practices
Excellent writing and speaking skills
Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative relationships
Demonstrated experience in implementing academic advising structural changes.
Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents including faculty, students, staff, and members of the community.
Condition of Employment
Ability to complete the background check process.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s in Educational Counseling, Educational Leadership, College Student Personnel, or a related field
Experience working with college or university faculty and an understanding of faculty governance
Demonstrated knowledge of database management and student record systems
Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) technology platforms designed to connect student services professionals, faculty, and administrators (e.g., EAB)
