Advanced Practice Provider (APN or PA)- General Orthopaedics

* Provides healthcare services typically performed by a physician, under the supervision of a physician or in collaboration with a physician.* Hold independent clinics and provide care for new, return and pre-and post-operative patients.* Perform in-office procedures (arthrocentesis and others). Provide assistance in the Operating Room Works collaboratively within the multidisciplinary orthopaedic team, using advanced clinical skills and knowledge to provide comprehensive direct patient care and services to patients under the care of the University of Chicago Medical Center.* This individual will assume accountability for patient care in making decisions, prescribing appropriate medications as set forth in the delegation of prescriptive authority, prescribing appropriate treatments, delegating tasks, and maintaining a comfortable environment for the patient.* Collaborate with and act as liaison among the nurse, patient, family, physician, and community resources for coordination of patient care.* Select appropriate communications approach to achieve desired outcomes of patient care.* Actively pursue required knowledge and skills for professional development.* Identify and participate in quality assurance issues on the unit. May participate in health education in the community. May participate in basic science and clinical research projects conducted by supervising physician.* May prepare statistical reports and analysis setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.* Act as a resource for clinical skills to staff on or off the unit.* May participate in teaching students and residents in techniques and procedures which are unique to specific clinical setting.* Develops and coordinates APP training and professional development activities.* Designs patient education programs that include information required to make informed health care and treatment decisions.* Evaluates goals and outcomes taking into account the benefit-versus-burden, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness for the patient, family and the organization.* Develops diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions needed to achieve the goals and outcomes of the patient’s plan of care.* Has a deep understanding and response to adverse drug reactions, with special attention to vulnerable populations such as infants, children, pregnant and lactating women, or older adults.* Performs other related work as needed.* College or university degree from an accredited school/college.* Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.* Two or more years of clinical experience in a related area of specialty.* Demonstrated clinical competency, effective leadership and teaching skills.* Ability to conduct physical examinations and health assessments.* Ability to interview and obtain medical information.* Willingness to enter into written collaborative agreement with a collaborating physician upon hire.* Once licensed and as needed, willingness to apply for a controlled substance license and DEA number.* Willingness to be privileged and credentialed through UCM Medical Staff Office prior to start date.* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently.* Strong organizational skills.* Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical skills.* Current Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) license in the State of **Indiana** or eligibility to receive by start date.* Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of **Indiana** or eligibility to receive by start date.* Organization.* Problem-solving.* Collaboration.* Attention to detail.* Patient Care.* Knowledge of basic medical terminology.* Ability to provide direct patient care in a professional and respectful manner.* Excellent verbal and written communication.* Ability to read documents or instruments.* Ability to perform detailed work.* Ability to perform multiple concurrent tasks with occasional interruptions Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality while handling sensitive.* Ability to perform multiple concurrent tasks with occasional interruptions.* Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality while handling sensitive.When applying, the document(s) **MUST** be uploaded via the **My Experience** page, in the section titled **Application Documents** of the application.The University of Chicago is an urban research university that has driven new ways of thinking since 1890.
