* Provides healthcare services typically performed by a physician, under the supervision of a physician or in collaboration with a physician, with a focus on orthopaedic trauma and surgical care.* Provides support by seeing clinic patients independently at various clinical locations, particularly at the University of Chicago Medicine Center for Care and Discovery in Hyde Park, with an emphasis on pre- and post-operative trauma and orthopaedic surgery patients.* Holds independent clinics and provides care for new, return, pre-operative, and post-operative orthopaedic trauma patients, including fracture follow-ups and post-surgical management.* Performs in-office orthopaedic procedures such as arthrocentesis, splinting, wound care, and other trauma-related procedures.* Provides assistance in the Operating Room during orthopaedic trauma surgeries, including fracture fixation, joint reconstruction, and post-operative care.* Works collaboratively within the multidisciplinary orthopaedic trauma team, using advanced clinical skills and knowledge to provide comprehensive direct patient care to trauma and surgical patients under the care of the University of Chicago Medical Center.* Assumes accountability for patient care, including making clinical decisions, prescribing appropriate medications and treatments as set forth in the delegation of prescriptive authority, delegating tasks, and maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for trauma patients.* Collaborates with and acts as liaison among nurses, patients, families, physicians, and community resources for coordination of orthopaedic trauma patient care.* Selects appropriate communications approach to achieve desired outcomes of patient care, including patient education on fracture care, post-operative rehabilitation, and surgical recovery.* Actively pursues required knowledge and skills for professional development, particularly in orthopaedic trauma management and surgical procedures.* Identifies and participates in quality assurance initiatives on the orthopaedic trauma unit, including outcomes tracking and complication reviews.* May participate in community health education focusing on injury prevention, musculoskeletal health, and post-trauma rehabilitation.* May participate in basic science and clinical research projects conducted by supervising physicians, including trauma registries, surgical outcomes, and fracture management studies.* May prepare statistical reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends, and recommendations or conclusions specific to orthopaedic trauma care.* Acts as a resource for clinical skills to staff on or off the orthopaedic trauma unit.* May participate in teaching students, residents, and other healthcare providers in techniques and procedures unique to orthopaedic trauma and surgical settings.* Designs patient education programs that include information required to make informed health care and treatment decisions.* Evaluates goals and outcomes taking into account the benefit-versus-burden, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness for the patient, family and the organization.* Develops diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions needed to achieve the goals and outcomes of the patient’s plan of care.* Has a deep understanding and response to adverse drug reactions, with special attention to vulnerable populations such as infants, children, pregnant and lactating women, or older adults. Develops and coordinates APP training and professional development activities.* Performs other related work as needed.* Two or more years of clinical experience in a related area of specialty.* Demonstrated clinical competency, effective leadership and teaching skills.* Ability to conduct physical examinations and health assessments.* Ability to interview and obtain medical information.* Willingness to enter into written collaborative agreement with a collaborating physician upon hire.* Once licensed and as needed, willingness to apply for a controlled substance license and DEA number.* Willingness to be privileged and credentialed through UCM Medical Staff Office prior to start date.* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently.* Strong organizational skills.* Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical skills.* Current Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) license in the State of Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date.* Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date.* Demonstrated clinical competency with effective leadership and teaching skills.* Ability to conduct physical examinations and perform health assessments.* Ability to interview patients and obtain accurate medical information.* Ability to provide direct patient care in a professional, respectful, and compassionate manner.* Knowledge of basic medical terminology and clinical practices.* Ability to perform detailed work and manage multiple concurrent tasks, including with occasional interruptions.* Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills.* Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.* Ability to act as a resource for colleagues and participate in teaching and mentorship.* Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.* Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.* Strong analytical skills to assess situations and implement solutions efficiently.When applying, the document(s) **MUST** be uploaded via the **My Experience** page, in the section titled **Application Documents** of the application.The University of Chicago is an urban research university that has driven new ways of thinking since 1890.
