The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well‑being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports.

Salary: $62,868.00 – $97,593.00.

About the Role This position is a Case Manager in a juvenile detention facility. You will provide daily case management services, manage resident youth cases, conduct field visits, collaborate with other agency partners, and maintain documentation and reports required by courts and internal stakeholders.

Perform daily case management services (intakes, managing visitor entry, facilitating youths’ access to telephone calls) within a juvenile detention facility for youth pending court proceedings or sentenced to detention.

Complete and maintain adjustment reports, court‑requested documentation, statistical reports, data entry, and internal monthly, quarterly, and annual reports used for planning services and evaluating care.

Manage resident youth cases, assess needs, intervene on youths’ behalf to access services, coordinate visits, phone calls, and correspondence, and refer youths to educational, medical, mental health, pro‑social, vocational, mentoring, and entitlement services.

Conduct home and field visits to assess needs of youth and families and coordinate with stakeholders on medical, mental health, education, career readiness, and pro‑social programming.

Collaborate with DYFJ facility units to document programming participation and youth behavior development.

Maintain collateral contact with youths’ relatives, friends, hospitals, schools, agencies, and community resources via field visits, mail, or telephone.

Maintain timely documentation of interactions, progress notes, and reports on youths’ progress in case management files, shared drives, and databases.

Ensure timely communication and collaboration with youth, families, courts, attorneys, and agencies involved in the youth’s life for case status and permanency advice.

Attend detention, milieu‑based meetings, and conferences as a member of an interdisciplinary team.

Additional Information Section 424‑A of the New York Social Services Law requires an authorized agency to inquire whether a candidate for employment with child‑caring responsibilities has been the subject of a child abuse and maltreatment report.

Minimum Qualifications

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community‑centered activities related to the duties described above; or

High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community‑centered activities related to the duties described above; or

Education and/or experience equivalent to “1” or “2” above. All candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in “1” above.

Residency Requirement New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for two continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. Discuss eligibility with the agency representative at the time of interview.
