SVP, Services
Commercial HVAC & Mechanical Contractor
Virginia
Company Overview A leading, private equity backed, full-service HVAC and plumbing contractor specializing in large-scale commercial construction projects is seeking a strategic and hands-on SVP of Services to build and scale its commercial services division. The company delivers complex mechanical construction, controls, and plumbing solutions for blue-chip general contractors across hospitality, multifamily, senior living, and institutional sectors.
Following a successful merger in recent years, the business has grown to approximately $200M in revenue and ~$20M EBITDA, with a strong pipeline of major construction projects and a rapidly expanding customer base. Backed by a reputable private investment firm, the company is now entering a transformative phase: shifting from a construction-heavy mix toward a high-margin, recurring commercial services platform.
This is a rare opportunity to lead that evolution and build a services organization from the ground up.
The Opportunity The existing services division (~$10M) has strong foundational capabilities but significant untapped potential. The incoming SVP will be responsible for expanding preventative maintenance revenue by 4x by the end of 2026, professionalizing operations, and establishing a scalable services model across the Mid‑Atlantic/Southeast footprint.
This role is perfect for a seasoned commercial HVAC/MEP services leader who thrives in entrepreneurial environments and wants to create meaningful enterprise value.
Key Responsibilities Build & Scale the Services Division
Develop and implement the operating model for a high-performing services business
Build standardized processes across estimating, dispatch, maintenance, controls, and customer communications
Establish KPIs and dashboards focused on margin, labor utilization, contract performance, and technician efficiency
Implement workforce planning, scheduling, inventory management, and field reporting frameworks
Own the P&L
Full accountability for top‑line growth and services profitability
Improve job costing, margin management, pricing discipline, and contract mix
Increase recurring revenue through PM agreements, monitoring, controls upgrades, and small service projects
Lead the strategic shift from construction revenue toward high‑margin service‑based offerings
Lead & Develop the Field Workforce
Oversee technicians performing break/fix, PM, commissioning, and startup
Build training, certification, and technician development pathways
Drive improvements in safety, customer satisfaction, quality, and first‑time fix rate
Foster tight coordination between construction, project management, and service teams
Oversee services pipeline, estimating, and project selection
Improve accuracy and standardization of proposals, scopes, and service agreements
Build strong customer relationships with building owners, facility managers, and GC partners
Support expansion of controls and automation offerings
Leverage modern monitoring platforms and controls systems (including VRF/automation technologies)
Integrate data‑driven insights into maintenance and service contract sales
Differentiate the business through advanced controls capabilities and remote monitoring offerings
Leadership & Team Building
Hire, mentor, and develop a high‑performing service operations and sales team
Operate with an entrepreneurial, hands‑on approach
Build a culture of accountability, process discipline, and customer‑centric thinking
Partner closely with the CEO and private investment firm on growth strategy
Candidate Profile Must‑Have
Leadership experience within HVAC, MEP, mechanical contracting, or commercial building controls
Direct experience managing technicians and field labor
Demonstrated P&L ownership or significant P&L influence
Proven track record scaling a service division (ideally from ~$10M → $30–50M+)
Strong understanding of commercial HVAC systems, commissioning, VRF, and controls
Experience building preventative maintenance programs and recurring revenue models
Nice‑to‑Have
Familiarity with monitoring platforms, IoT/connected equipment, or controls software
Experience in a private equity‑backed or high‑growth environment
Exposure to integrating acquisitions or expanding into new markets

Backing from a well‑capitalized investment partner ready to support the services expansion
