About the Role We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Autobody Department Head to lead our collision repair operations. This individual must bring extensive hands‑on autobody repair knowledge, strong leadership capability, and a deep understanding of insurance claims and estimating. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of managing a high‑performing collision repair shop or department.
Key Responsibilities Department Leadership
Oversee all daily operations of the collision repair department
Lead, train, and mentor technicians and support staff
Maintain efficient workflow, repair quality, and production timelines
Enforce safety protocols and industry best practices
Collision Repair & Technical Expertise
Provide expert guidance on structural repairs, panel replacement, refinishing, and diagnostic procedures
Ensure all repairs meet OEM standards and customer expectations
Review repair plans, supplement needs, and repair quality before delivery
Insurance Claims & Estimating
Work directly with insurance adjusters to review estimates and negotiate supplements
Prepare accurate, detailed estimates and repair order documentation
Manage all claim‑related communication with insurers and customers
Ensure compliance with DRP (Direct Repair Program) requirements, if applicable
Customer Service & Communication
Provide exceptional customer experience through clear, professional communication
Explain repair processes, timelines, and claim details to customers
Resolve any concerns or issues promptly and effectively
Administrative & Operational Management
Monitor department expenses, productivity, and profitability
Order supplies, materials, and equipment as needed
Maintain accurate records and ensure regulatory compliance
Collaborate with other departments (parts, service, office) for smooth operations
Qualifications
5–10+ years of experience in autobody / collision repair
3+ years in a leadership, foreman, or department head role
Strong knowledge of structural repair, frame equipment, refinishing, and OEM procedures
Experience working directly with insurance companies and handling claims/supplements
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Strong problem‑solving ability and attention to detail
Valid driver’s license; I-CAR or ASE certifications a plus
