Report to the UC San Diego Health System Sterile Processing Department (SPD) manager and work closely with perioperative nursing leadership at Jacobs Medical Center and its twenty‑two operating rooms. Supervise the PM shift of SPD staff, ensuring compliance with departmental policies and internal controls, stewardship of operational, financial, and human resources, and quality control of sterile processing protocols.

Key Responsibilities

Supervise and schedule daily activities of central sterile staff, overseeing work quality and productivity.

Train subordinates on sterile processing procedures; provide daily guidance and direction. Develop unit schedules to meet staffing needs.

Consult with management on daily operations, providing input on process productivity and quality improvements.

Oversee central sterile supply inventory and routine maintenance/calibration of equipment and instruments.

Identify and troubleshoot equipment performance issues, determining need for service or repairs.

Participate in creating, updating, modifying, and improving departmental processes and operational infrastructure. Contribute to decision‑making on hiring, promotions, increases, discipline, and other personnel matters.

Minimum Qualifications

Seven (7) years of related SPD experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s Degree in business, healthcare administration or related area plus three (3) years of relevant SPD experience/training.

Demonstrated ability to supervise staff, assign work, manage complex workflows, and competing priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

SPD experience at a trauma center.

One (1+) year or more of recent supervisory or management experience.

Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification or Certification Board for Sterile Processing Department (CBSPD) certification.

Special Conditions

Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Employment subject to a criminal background check and pre‑employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $71,600 – $127,400 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%). Hourly Equivalent: $34.29 – $61.02.

Factors in determining compensation: experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than anticipated based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
