The Mammography Technologist is a specialized healthcare professional responsible for performing diagnostic imaging procedures focused on breast health. This role is essential in the early detection and monitoring of breast diseases, including breast cancer. The technologist ensures patient safety, comfort, and accurate imaging while adhering to regulatory standards and clinical protocols.
Key Responsibilities
Perform screening and diagnostic mammograms using specialized imaging equipment
Prepare and position patients for imaging procedures, ensuring comfort and accuracy
Apply radiation safety measures and protection devices for patients and staff
Evaluate image quality and make necessary adjustments to equipment settings
Maintain accurate patient records and document relevant clinical information
Communicate findings and collaborate with radiologists and other healthcare professionals
Maintain and troubleshoot mammography equipment and report issues promptly
Stay current with advancements in mammography technology and best practices
Required Qualifications
Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology program
Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
Valid state license to practice as a Mammography Technologist
Minimum 1 year of experience in mammography
Strong technical skills and attention to detail
Excellent communication and patient care skills
Preferred Qualifications
Mammography certification (ARRT Mammography credential)
Experience with digital mammography systems and image management software
Familiarity with breast ultrasound, biopsy, or MRI procedures
Certifications
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Mammography certification (preferred)
May require standing, walking, bending, and lifting during procedures
Must adhere to HIPAA and safety regulations
On-call or weekend shifts may be required depending on facility needs
