Basic Purpose As an Area Director, Replenishment within US Foods, you will be pivotal to how we serve and delight our customers. This role sits in our Supply chain organization, within our Replenishment Team. You will be assigned to a specific Area, consisting of one to three markets, and will oversee a team of talented Replenishment Leads, Buyers, and Operations Support Specialists. Collectively, your team will drive all Replenishment buying and inventory management activities for the Area across all categories (grocery, fresh, produce). Additionally, you will represent the Replenishment function on the Area leadership staff, which includes local and national sales leaders. This role will be onsite 5 days a week (Monday‑Friday) in Sacramento, CA.
Essential Responsibilities
Own and manage all replenishment related performance metrics for your Area.
Actively engage in Area‑level staff meetings on replenishment performance and issue resolution.
Drive improved performance on key metrics and provide timely updates to the Area staff.
Track and monitor customer service levels for your Area across all categories.
Monitor inventory trends in your Area and work with the Buyer team to determine corrective actions for over/under positions.
Track and monitor spoilage, F2F, Inventory cost change (ICC), etc. across all categories.
Manage optimal order patterns and volume to maximize freight savings, while meeting inventory goals.
Operations and Execution Responsibilities
Oversee all replenishment and inventory management activities in your Area.
Oversee Area Buyers to manage inventory health and highlight issues with DIOH target to the Replenishment Center of Excellence (COE).
Ensure POs are issued timely to vendors with high reliance on Suggested Order Quantities (SOQ) and optimal parameters.
Root cause and address major stock outs and anticipated shortages.
Ensure timely updates to the POs and arrivals to the DCs; help escalations to transportation, DC operations and merchandising teams.
Resolve discrepancies through CASIS.
Provide local ownership for overall service performance and special events.
Ensure service requests are assigned timely and actioned within the SLA.
Support local sales events and coordinate with Sales and Merchandising to manage demand forecast.
Oversee major customer transitions and assortment transitions.
Triaging and resolving acute/seasonal challenges, e.g., hurricanes, fire business, education ramp‑up.
Team Leadership Responsibilities
Oversee, manage, and monitor all Replenishment activities of your team.
Ensure coordination and information flow between Buyers & Support Specialists.
Build a culture of customer service, collaboration, performance, and continuous improvement.
Provide coaching and process guidance; work closely with the COE as needed.
Represent your team on regular performance evaluations and build a talent pipeline.
Provide regular 1‑to‑1 feedback based on cross‑functional inputs.
Process & Continuous Improvement Responsibilities
Coach the Buyer team to drive high reliance on systems (e.g., SCPO) for planning and buying activities.
Identify training needs and co‑develop competencies with Replenishment leadership and COE.
Assume subject‑matter expertise in certain process areas by building playbooks and conducting trainings.
Share process improvement opportunities with your peers and the COE.
Supervision Responsible for the Buyers, Replenishment Leads, and Operations Support Specialists for your Area.
Relationships
Report to the Senior Director, Region Replenishment.
Provide support to the Replenishment Center of Excellence (COE).
Work closely with Area leadership, including the Area President.
Collaborate with Merchandising, DC Operations, Local Sales, Transportation, Finance & Costing, and National Sales Support Team.
Work Environment
Inside office setting.
Up to 20% travel, as determined by business need.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, or related fields, or related experience and/or military experience.
7 years of experience managing operations and leading teams in core supply chain functions.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage & coach a large supply‑chain team.
Ability to collaborate cross‑functionally and draw linkages with business impact.
Familiarity with analytics and supply‑chain planning and buying systems.
Ability to synthesize key information and present in meetings to influence decisions.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.).
