Position Overview
The University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for the
Frank Hawkins Kenan Distinguished Professor of Marine Sciences
– a nine‑month, full‑time faculty appointment (rank: Professor with Tenure) beginning in August 2026. Candidates must be available to start in that month. This role requires a faculty member who has established an outstanding research program in marine biology and who will actively contribute to teaching, service, and departmental leadership. Responsibilities
• Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in marine biology and related fields. • Conduct and lead research programs, publish high‑impact scientific articles, and secure extramural funding. • Mentor undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral scholars. • Serve on departmental and university committees, and contribute to the strategic growth of the department. • Develop a 10‑year strategic plan for synergistic initiatives that enrich the university’s academic and community environment. Qualifications
Minimum
Ph.D. or equivalent in marine biology or a closely related discipline. Currently employed at the rank of Associate Professor with Tenure or above. Demonstrated eligibility for the rank of Professor with Tenure at UNCW. Preferred
International prominence in marine biology. Exceptional record of scholarly accomplishments, including publishing high‑impact research, securing extramural funding, mentoring graduate students, and engaging in other significant scholarly activities. Record appropriate for appointment at the rank of Full Professor. Required Documents
