Position Title William R. Kenan, Jr. Distinguished Professorship of Marine Science
Brief Summary of Work This is a standard nine‑month, full‑time faculty appointment at the rank of Professor with Tenure, beginning in August 2026. The candidate will establish an outstanding research program in marine science, teach within the assigned department, and provide service to the department and the wider university community.
Primary Function of the Organizational Unit The appointment will be housed in one of the four marine science departments: Biology & Marine Biology, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Earth & Ocean Sciences, or Physics & Physical Oceanography. The department will provide excellent research facilities and a supportive environment for faculty development and mentorship.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Ph.D. or equivalent in Marine Science or an associated area of science
Currently employed at the rank of Associate Professor with Tenure or above, or equivalent industry/government experience
Demonstrated eligibility for the rank of Professor with Tenure at UNCW
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
International prominence in their field
Excellent record of publication
Sustained extramural funding
Significant scholarly activities
Likely to maintain a high level of productivity for another decade or more
