Job Description The Department of Corrections, Division of Health and Rehabilitation Services, is recruiting for a Physician Assistant/Advanced Practice Registered Nurse 1 located at the Fairbanks Correctional Center (FCC) in Fairbanks, Alaska.

What You Will Be Doing: As a provider, you will care for the emergent, urgent and chronic care needs of inmates. There is nursing support staff 24 hours per day. You will act as the liaison between the correctional facility, local physicians and hospitals. You will prescribe Schedule II‑V drugs as appropriate in accordance with State licensing requirements and the prescriptive authority by the Alaska Board of Nursing or the Alaska Medical Board.

The Working Environment You Can Expect: The nursing staff and providers work in tandem to provide for the medical care for inmates within a correctional facility clinic. All facets of inmate care are coordinated through facility security in a safe environment.

Who We Are Looking For:

Medicine and Dentistry: Knowledge of the diagnosis and treatment of injuries, diseases, and deformities, including preventive health‑care measures.

Public Health: Applies knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, methods, and tools associated with protecting and improving the health of people and their communities, including, promoting healthy lifestyles, researching disease and/or injury prevention, and/or detecting, preventing, and responding to infectious diseases.

Technology Application: Uses machines, tools, instruments, or equipment effectively; uses computers and computer applications to analyze and communicate information in the appropriate format.

Teamwork: Encourages and facilitates cooperation, pride, trust, and group identity; fosters commitment and team spirit; works with others to achieve goals.

Minimum Qualifications Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska.

Special Note Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska, who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure as a Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska may apply for vacancies in this job class. Applicants qualifying under this option may receive a conditional job offer; however, proof of licensure will be required prior to final appointment and reporting for duty.

Some positions require the successful applicant to pass a background investigation, including fingerprinting, as a prerequisite to employment. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.

Some positions require the successful applicant to provide proof they are free from active pulmonary tuberculosis at the time of hire. Employees may be required to be screened annually. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.

Shift assignments and on‑call availability may be required.

Some positions require application for and renewal of a DEA Registration Number with various designation(s) from the United States Drug Enforcement Administration allowing them to write prescriptions for a variety of controlled substances as a government health care provider. These positions will additionally register with the Alaska Prescription Drug Monitoring Program.

In addition to maintaining Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licensing requirements, some positions may require maintenance of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Basic Life Support, registration with a Prescription Drug Monitoring Program, National Provider Identifier number, and others as appropriate.

Starting salary may be approved up to Step D-$5,070.00, if criteria are met.

It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

WORK EXPERIENCE If using work experience not already documented in your application, also provide the employer name, your job title, dates of employment, and whether full‑or part‑time. Applications will be reviewed to determine if the responses are supported and minimum qualifications are clearly met. If they are not, the applicant may not advance to the interview and selection phase of the recruitment.

PREA NOTIFICATION The Department of Corrections follows and maintains federal and state requirements standards including, but not limited to, Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards which apply to all public and private institutions that house adult or juvenile offenders. PREA standards preclude the department from hiring or promoting anyone who has engaged in, or been convicted of any conduct which would violate PREA standards related to sexual assault including:

Sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility, or other institutions.

CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECKS/APSIN/ACOMS Please be aware – this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.

FINGERPRINT NOTICE All Department of Corrections employees are required to be fingerprinted. The successful candidate must pass a criminal history check.

DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIREMENT Applicants must possess a valid driver's license. Proof of licensure will be required prior to reporting to duty.
