Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant in the Toxicities Program Location: Boston, MA (and surrounding communities).

This role is part of Dana‑Farber’s Toxicities Program, providing outpatient care in collaboration with a physician.

The successful candidate will manage acute and chronic cancer‑related problems, provide anticipatory guidance, patient and family education, and emotional support, and maintain prescriptive authority for controlled substances (Schedule II‑V) in Massachusetts.

Weekend rotation coverage is required.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with a physician to deliver comprehensive outpatient oncology care.

Provide anticipatory guidance and patient/family education regarding disease, treatment, and supportive care.

Assess, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic medical issues related to cancer and its treatment.

Offer psychological and emotional support to patients and families.

Prescribe medications, including Schedule II‑V controlled substances, in accordance with Massachusetts regulations.

Engage in interdisciplinary team communication with co‑workers at Dana‑Farber and affiliated institutions.

Participate in continual learning to strengthen clinical knowledge and align with the Institute’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values.

Provide weekend rotation coverage as needed.

NP Qualifications

Authorization to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in an expanded role in Massachusetts.

Current certification from a nationally recognized accrediting body approved by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.

Minimum of 24 contact hours beyond generic education in pharmacotherapeutics.

Master’s degree in Nursing.

Minimum of 1 year oncology nursing experience or 1 year Nurse Practitioner experience.

Oncology Nurse Practitioner experience preferred.

Possession of Massachusetts Department of Public Health and Federal DEA numbers.

Certification in Oncology Nursing preferred (OCN, AOCN, CPON, BMTCN, CPHON).

PA Qualifications

Master’s degree and successful completion of an AAPA/NCCPA accredited Physician Assistant Studies program.

NCCPA Certified and licensed to practice as a Physician Assistant in Massachusetts.

Maintain current DEA and Massachusetts Controlled Substance Licenses, and complete 100 hours of CME as required each 2‑year period.

Professional experience levels:

PA I – No professional experience required.

PA II – 2 years of qualifying professional PA experience.

PA III – 5 years of qualifying professional PA experience.

Pay Transparency Statement Pay ranges vary according to experience and role:

Physician Assistant:

$126K – $283K;

NP:

$125K – $283K per year for a 40‑hour/week position.

Union nursing positions are compensated based on the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Terms and Conditions of Employment Terms and conditions of employment for Nurse Practitioners at Dana‑Farber are governed by a collective bargaining unit through the Massachusetts Nurses Association at our Longwood, Chestnut Hill, and Merrimack Valley locations.
