NICU Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Shift: Full time; Rotating

Location: University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC)

UMMC is seeking a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) or a Physician Assistant (PA) to join our multidisciplinary team in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). As part of the Children’s Hospital at UMMC, the APP will provide highly intensive care to the most critically ill babies in Maryland, working within a 52‑bed, 37,000‑square‑foot Level IV NICU that supports a comprehensive division of acute pediatric care.

Responsibilities

Provide intensive medical care to critically ill newborns in collaboration with attending physicians and a multidisciplinary team.

Perform daily patient management, lead care teams, and offer resource support for the provider team.

Serve as an educational resource for nursing staff, medical personnel, and families, sharing evidence‑based interventions and best practices.

Participate in the Maryland Regional Neonatal Transport Program (MRNTP), supporting neonatal transport team coverage.

Engage in professional practice activities and clinical research as required.

Qualifications

Completed an accredited Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) or Physician Assistant (PA) program and successfully passed NNP/PA certification.

National Certification Corporation (NCC) certification for NNPs is required; NCCPA certification for PAs is required.

Solid clinical experience in neonatal intensive care, with excellent communication skills and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.

Maryland licensure or eligibility is required.

Minimum of two (2) years of neonatal nursing experience for NNP candidates.

Minimum of two (2) years of NICU/FTN experience for PA candidates or successful completion of a Neonatal PA residency/fellowship.

New graduate Neonatal NPs are encouraged to apply.
