The IT Sr. Systems Engineer II role is a senior technical position within the IT department, requiring demonstrated experience in IT infrastructure, problem‑solving skills, and the ability to work independently, as a mentor, and as part of a team.
Primary Purpose: Design, implement, support, and document complex systems including cloud, non‑cloud, and hybrid‑cloud environments. Collaborate with IT architecture to define strategy and deliver high‑quality systems that meet business requirements. Provide technical insights and coaching to less experienced engineers.
Note: This is a hybrid position – in‑office at least three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday). Candidates must reside in IL, PA, NJ, DE, MD, or Washington, DC. No relocation is available.
Primary Duties
Coordinate and lead discussions with business partners and vendors to gather requirements and perform feasibility analysis. Write system specifications, logical & physical architecture diagrams, and implementation plans.
Develop future plans, resource requirements, migration strategies, and project schedules. Deliver presentations to Engineering, Architecture Review Boards, and business partners.
Design, support, and maintain custom system integrations. Keep knowledge of emerging IT technologies and provide recommendations.
Identify and capture risks and issues, providing data to leadership and peers.
Maintain technical knowledge and business acumen within own discipline. Perform advanced debugging and lead peer code reviews.
Job Scope

Lead technological innovation to drive new business opportunities and solve complex business problems.
Conduct higher‑complexity work with occasional supervision and independent judgment.
Create and contribute to a development‑centric work environment.
Lead and supervise interns and apprentices, serving as a peer coach for system engineers.
Minimum Education Required High School/GED
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Networking (or equivalent experience).
4–7 years in IT infrastructure design, application design, cloud computing, disaster/recovery, or 7+ years of relevant experience.
Experience with system administration.
Ability to design and document processes & procedures.
Experience leading operational hand‑offs.
Experience with ServiceNow and configuration database/asset management.
Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to articulate mission‑critical information.
Ability to influence across the organization and drive innovative process improvements.
Experience delivering work aligned with project management principles.
Ability to perform financial impact analysis and cost optimization.
Advanced monitoring, cloud technologies, security basics, scripting & automation (PowerShell, Ansible, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
ServiceNow Certified System Administrator
ServiceNow Certified Application Developer
ServiceNow CIS – Hardware Asset Management Certification
Experience with Discovery and Service Mapping
Certifications such as NERC‑CIP, FERC, AZ900
Deeper understanding of programming languages and scalable application design
Initiative beyond implementation and research contribution
