Data Center Infrastructure Architect
for our client, a world-class AI infrastructure solutions company in San Francisco!
This is a full-time, direct-hire position with a hybrid schedule in San Francisco.
POSITION OVERVIEW We are seeking a highly skilled Data Center Infrastructure Architect to lead the physical design and implementation of a hyper-scale data center. You will own end-to-end physical network planning, including fiber plant architecture, transceiver selection, and integration with structured cabling ecosystems, ensuring our infrastructure supports rapid growth and future technological advancements.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Logical to Physical Mapping:
Break down and automate logical port maps (TOR, spine, super-spine, DCI) into physical cabling schematics, supporting sites with over 100,000 ports.
Fiber Plant Design:
Define and specify fiber cable types (MTP/MPO), trunk counts, and hierarchical cabling structures; optimize cassette placement within racks and meet-me rooms for efficiency and scalability.
Optics and Transceiver Planning:
Select appropriate 400G/800G transceivers (DR4, FR4, LR4, SR8, coherent DCI) based on reach, loss budgets, and interoperability across vendors and generations.
Structured Cabling & Physical Implementation:
Develop patching architectures, standardize labeling and documentation, and design pathways to support high-density fiber environments.
Scalability & Lifecycle Management:
Build modular, scalable designs adaptable to future upgrades (e.g., move to 800G/1.6T optics); integrate with data center management tools like NetBox for tracking fibers and ports.
Collaboration & Standards Compliance:
Work closely with vendors and engineering teams to ensure designs meet industry standards (IEEE 802.3, OIF) and organizational requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS
Deep expertise in structured cabling systems (Corning, Panduit, CommScope) and MPO/MTP ecosystems.
Strong knowledge of optical standards and transceiver tech (400G/800G, dispersion, testing methods like OTDR).
Experience with fiber loss budgets, testing, and troubleshooting.
Skilled in integrating designs with DCIM and other management tools.
Background in scaling infrastructure to support high-speed optics transitions and future growth.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS This full-time position offers an annual base salary range of $200-400k, commensurate with experience, plus bonus potential and an equity package.
