Job Title Residential Support Professional
Employment Details Status:
Full-time, 2-10 pm shift
Salary:
$20.00 per hour
Job Description The Arc of Southern Maryland is currently hiring full-time Residential Support Professionals to assist individuals that need support to access the community, make friends, have fun, and be as self‑sufficient as possible. An RSP may provide support at home, in recreational settings, or the community. This support may include personal hygiene, light housekeeping, grocery shopping, banking, medical appointments, medication administration (if necessary), transportation, or social and recreational assistance. To enhance the ability of the individuals to lead a self‑directed life, RSPs provide support, guidance, and information necessary to build self‑esteem, confidence, and assertiveness, and to make decisions.
Qualifications
18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
A valid driving license (Driver’s permit or provisional license not accepted).
Ability to pass a criminal background check mandated by the State of Maryland.
A good driving record with no more than 2 points on the license.
A reliable vehicle to be used in transporting individuals served.
Enjoyment of assisting people and hands‑on support.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Community Living Skills & Supports
Assists individual(s) to meet physical and personal management needs, teaching skills and building on individual strengths.
Assists with household management and transportation needs, performing tasks if individuals cannot do so.
Assists with and/or dispenses medication (as certified), or other prescribed medical treatments.
Supports individual(s) in developing friendships and other relationships.
Community and Service Networking
Provides opportunities for community and leisure activities.
Assists in identifying community supports and initiating connections.
Participant Empowerment
Assists individual(s) to plan, make informed choices, follow through on responsibilities, and advocate on behalf of themselves.
Communication
Uses sensitive communication skills to build rapport and adapt to communication styles.
Uses terminology appropriately to ensure understanding.
Facilitation of Services
Maintains professional relationships with the individual and support team, following ethical standards and recognizing personal limitations.
Assists in implementation of individualized plans to achieve specific outcomes.
Advocacy
Facilitates, assists, and/or represents individuals when service barriers arise.
Interacts with and educates community members and organizations (e.g., employers, landlords).
Crisis Intervention
Identifies and defuses crisis situations, contacts necessary supports.
Monitors crisis situations, discusses incidents with staff and individuals, adjusts supports and environment.
Implements behavior plans when indicated.
Documentation
Maintains accurate records and submits them to appropriate sources timely.
Maintains confidentiality and ethical practice standards.
Organization Participation
Complies with all agency guidelines, procedures, and practices.
Incorporates sensitivity to cultural, religious, racial, disability, and gender issues.
Education, Training & Self‑Development
Attends, completes, and passes all required training, initially and ongoing.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
Performs tasks as assigned or requested.
Demonstrates appropriate role‑model behavior at all times.
Education and Experience
Clear reading, writing, and comprehension skills.
High school diploma or GED.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Proficiency in computer software (Excel, Word, Access).
Dependable, responsible, punctual, and flexible.
Capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
Strong track record of compliance with background checks.
Valid driving license and safe vehicle for transporting service recipients.
A capacity and desire to build long‑term, trusting, respectful relationships.

Standard physical demands include standing, walking, sitting for long periods, using hands, reaching, climbing stairs, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, speaking and hearing.
Occasional lifting or moving of up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment

Moderate noise level.
Evening and weekend work when scheduled.
