The Physician Assistant (PA) Primary Care is a licensed, certified, non‑physician healthcare provider who renders direct patient care, possesses delegated prescriptive authority, and is credentialed and privileged to bill as an independent provider under Medicare and Medicaid. The PA works under the supervision of a physician and provides medical care within the scope of their practice, based on the supervising physician’s delegation.

Essential Functions Of The Role

Assess patients’ physical and mental condition by performing comprehensive or problem‑focused examinations and taking medical histories.

Order, collect, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health‑care needs.

Prescribe, recommend, and/or employ medical drug therapies or other therapeutic treatments, and perform indicated procedures in accordance with approved protocols and policies.

Recommend interventions to modify behavior associated with health risks.

Formulate and implement comprehensive, outcome‑based patient treatment plans based on assessments, evidence‑based medicine, standards of care, and professional practice guidelines, in collaboration with physicians and interdisciplinary team members.

Evaluate patient response to health‑care provided and assess effectiveness of care.

Provide patient and family counseling regarding medical processes, medication, nutrition, and health promotion.

Maintain accurate records detailing treatment plans and outcomes, and initiate timely consultation and referral when scope of practice is exceeded.

Provide consultation‑level services for conditions related to the PA’s specialty and training.

Perform invasive procedures specific to scope of practice as delegated by a supervising physician.

Manage a panel of patients in a team‑based model focusing on acute and chronic illness management and population health.

Key Success Factors

Knowledge of diagnosis, treatment, and preventive care of human injuries, diseases, and dysfunctions.

Proficiency in diagnosing, treating, and rehabilitating physical and mental disorders.

Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and critical‑thinking skills.

Proficiency in computer and related software applications.

Ability to develop and implement comprehensive, outcome‑based patient treatment plans.

Ability to counsel patients on medical conditions, treatment plans, and behavior modification.

Ability to interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests.

Current Texas PA license.

Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.

NCCPA certification.

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.

Less than 1 year of clinical experience.

Current Texas PA license.

Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.

NCCPA certification.
