Purpose The Dentist is responsible for the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of patients in a clinical setting. The role also documents treatment, communicates with patients, refers to partners as appropriate, and provides guidance and oversight to the dental support team.

Compensation

The target wage range for this position is $75.31 per hour to $93.47 per hour.

Final offers are individually based on various factors, including skill set, years of experience, location, qualifications, work schedule and other job‑related reasons.

Primary Responsibilities

Enjoy working with school‑age children around their health care needs.

Detect and diagnose oral disease including dental caries, periodontal disease, and oral pathology.

Make reasonable and sound dental assessments and treatment plans and communicate them to patients.

Provide high‑quality dental care to patients, in accordance with licensure requirements and NCH policies and procedures.

Perform general dentistry, specifically pediatrics, restorative, extractions, prevention, and education.

Integrate patient education into all treatment phases and partner with patients to achieve optimal oral health that meets patient needs.

Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden adverse developments during treatment.

Obtain history and physical appropriate to dental needs; coordinate care with the primary care team.

Stay abreast of new innovations, changing practice guidelines and standards to deliver safe, effective, and evidence‑based care to patients, via continuing education and professional development.

Indirect Patient Care

Communicate with parents and guardians regarding student/patient care.

Review patient records, charts, and other pertinent information prior to providing care.

Consult with appropriate providers and recommend outside referrals as appropriate.

Document all patient visits, communication, referrals, and prescriptions accurately and timely, in compliance with Neighborcare Health guidelines.

Participate in developing and utilizing practice guidelines and procedures, using disease registries, audits, risk management, and utilization management programs.

Work with the SBHC dental assistant team to troubleshoot equipment issues with portable dental equipment.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Administrative Work

Assist the Chief Dental Officer and Program Manager in planning and evaluating effective clinic operations.

Assist with meeting clinic quality improvement and operations goals, striving for an efficient, productive clinic.

Participate as a team member with all clinical staff to embody the principles of NeighborCare Health’s Service Commitments.

Lead a team of support staff to ensure services meet or exceed the expectations of patients, coworkers, the public, and community standards.

Attend and contribute at staff meetings, provider meetings, and other in‑service trainings.

Keep abreast of new developments in dentistry through structured continuing professional development, updating delivery of care based on evidence‑based practices.

May participate in preceptorship of dental residents, dental assisting students, or serve as a clinical shadowing mentor.

Education / Experience Requirements

Dental Degree required (DDS or DMD) from an American Dental Association accredited dental school.

Current Washington State Dept. of Health Dentist License.

BLS Certification.

One (1) year General Practice Residency or Advanced Education in General Dentistry, or relevant 3 years of clinical practice experience.

Preferred Requirements

Completed a one (1) year clinical residency program.

DEA License.

Flexibility to work in a non‑traditional dental setting with portable dental equipment.

Ability to work in a high‑pressure, time‑sensitive, and complex health‑care environment.

Ability to meet and comply with HIPAA/Confidentiality policies and procedures and handle confidential and sensitive patient and staff information.

Ability to work with individuals of varying ethnicities, socio‑economic levels, cultures, sexual orientations, and gender identities.

Demonstrates the ability to conduct discussions of a sensitive nature with staff and patients.

Ability to build relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries.

Ability to develop collaborative working relationships that foster a positive working environment with an emphasis on teamwork.

Ability to work with computers, the use of email, and electronic medical records.

Ability to communicate in person, via email, and on the phone effectively.

Preferred Skills

Community health experience.

Bilingual preferred.
