Night Shift Shift: 10:00 pm – 8:00 am, Sunday – Wednesday. Relocation assistance available.
Mechanical Responsibilities
Chilled water systems and components, HVAC systems such as rooftop units, CRAC/CRAH units, and humidification systems.
Electrical Responsibilities
Electrical/critical power distribution from the Utility/Generator main switchgear through the UPS systems out to the customer load.
Fire Life Safety Responsibilities
Wet sprinkler systems and pre‑action sprinkler systems as well as their associated detection devices.
Communications Infrastructure Responsibilities
IFD / MDF / MMR management, structured cabling and supporting infrastructure ownership, and customer space management.
Duties
Serve as the data center subject matter expert for electrical, mechanical, controls, and fire life safety systems.
Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in facility systems (Electrical, Mechanical, Communications, Building Monitoring and Control).
Track and trend operational characteristics.
Mentor junior staff.
Work with the Data Center Manager to track and complete an aggressive preventive and predicative maintenance schedule.
Provide guidance to determine maintenance requirements for mechanical and electrical systems.
Ensure maximum operational efficiency, analyze existing conditions, recommend new technologies, and improve overall efficiency and cost reduction.
Manage systems to avoid unplanned, customer‑impacting outages.
Manage data floor and back‑of‑house mechanical loading capacity to maintain cooling system efficiency.
Provide applied mechanical and integrated control expertise for the entire data center.
Act as the primary knowledge expert in fire and electrical code compliance.
Compose technical documentation for preventive or corrective maintenance procedures.
Assist the Data Center Manager with maintenance discrepancy databases and resolve site issues based on priority.
Manage trouble tickets, work order completion, infrastructure projects, cage build‑outs, overhead installations, and rack and stack activities.
Navigate and utilize a CMMS system and develop procedures to solve problems.
Assist in asset and consumable inventory management and proper labeling of equipment.
Ensure adherence to Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and upload data to OSS.
Provide physical security within the CoreSite premises.
Deliver day‑to‑day exceptional customer service and support.
Escalate incidents and produce reports.
Monitor the building fire alarm system and conduct regular facility and security tours.
Adhere to and promote CoreSite's Principles of Operational Excellence and culture.
Requirements Knowledge
Expert understanding of electrical and mechanical systems used in a facility and data center environment, including electrical distribution, transformers, PLCs, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, chillers, CRAC/CRAH units, and pre‑action sprinkler systems.
Expert knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25, and building codes related to fire life safety.
Expert knowledge of fiber optics/cabling infrastructure and industry best practices.
Expert knowledge of industrial safety best practices (lockout/tag‑out, arc flash, OSHA and state regulations).
Expert knowledge in data trending/tracking and rapid learning of PC‑based, integrated critical monitoring systems.
Skills
Minimum 5‑7 years installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting large commercial and industrial systems (chillers, water treatment, HVAC, BMS, PLC, generators, UPS, fiber/cable, etc.).
Proven leadership skills.
Expert fiber and copper cable installation (pulling, dressing, terminating).
Experience diagnosing and repairing IT hardware, servers, network switches, and structured cabling.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including Microsoft Office.
Abilities
Communicate effectively with customers and internal staff.
Coordinate, supervise, and communicate with contractors performing maintenance or upgrades.
Learn quickly and resolve issues during normal and after‑hours.
Operate in a rigorous process‑driven team environment.
Analyze and solve problems logically.
Multitask multiple projects.
Operate hand and machine tools and electrical tools (multimeter, infrared camera).
Education / Experience
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience.
5+ years in a mechanical/electrical position within critical facilities (data center, hospital, power plant preferred).
Pass a comprehensive background check (criminal history, references, employment and education verification, DMV and credit check).
Physical Demands
Stand, walk, sit, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach 1/3–2/3 of the time.
Lift up to 50 pounds 1/3 of the time.
Operate in a high‑stress, fast‑paced environment with shifting priorities.
Willing to work outside normal business hours, weekends, late nights, holidays, and on‑call support.
