Managing Director – Trade Compliance About the Opportunity

FTI Consulting is seeking a dynamic and visionary Managing Director with 10+ years of comprehensive trade compliance and international trade experience to lead high‑profile global client engagements and drive the strategic growth of our Trade Compliance Practice. The executive role combines thought leadership, business development and operational oversight to shape the future of FTI’s trade compliance offerings. The Managing Director will advise clients on complex environments, implement innovative compliance solutions and expand FTI’s client base. Expertise in customs compliance, tariff mitigation programs, FTZs and sourcing regulations is critical.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and oversee multiple high‑impact, global client engagements with strategic, operational and financial accountability.

Provide authoritative guidance on complex trade compliance matters, including U.S. and international customs laws, sourcing regulations, tariff mitigation and trade policy developments.

Develop and execute growth strategies for FTI’s Trade Compliance Practice, including expanding the client base, increasing market share and launching innovative service offerings.

Cultivate and maintain senior client relationships, proactively identify new business opportunities and expand FTI’s customer base.

Mentor and develop senior team members to build future leadership within the practice.

Serve as a thought leader by representing FTI at industry conferences, webinars, client forums and regulatory discussions.

Drive innovation in trade compliance methodologies, tools and analytics to enhance client service delivery.

Basic Qualifications

Advanced degree (JD or MBA) required.

10+ years of progressive experience in trade compliance, international trade or regulatory consulting.

Demonstrated success leading high‑performing teams and managing complex, multi‑national client portfolios.

Deep knowledge of U.S. and global customs laws, tariff mitigation programs, tariff classification, sourcing regulations and supply chain compliance.

Proven track record of business development, including building and expanding client relationships.

Willingness to travel extensively (up to 50%).

Preferred Skills and Credentials

Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) or equivalent certifications.

Industry certifications such as CCS, CES or similar.

Hands‑on experience with trade compliance technology, analytics tools and digital compliance solutions.

Exceptional executive‑level communication, presentation and relationship management skills.

Proven ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders across industries and geographies.
