Transportation Highway Group Manager – Civil Engineering

Description : Fisher Associates, a multidisciplinary design services firm, is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to lead the technical design of highway and roadway projects across Upstate New York. In this senior technical role, you will guide design development, ensure high‑quality deliverables for clients such as NYSDOT and local municipalities, and mentor junior engineers within a collaborative team environment.
Responsibilities
Deliver transportation projects that improve mobility, safety, and quality of life in local communities.
Foster a high‑performing, motivated team through clear expectations, constructive feedback, mentoring, and career development.
Oversee the design and execution of highway engineering projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and client requirements.
Serve as a technical lead, guiding the team on best practices, decisions, and troubleshooting as needed.
Implement and oversee quality control processes and conduct technical audits to ensure high standards.
Maintain effective communication with project managers, clients, and cross‑functional teams.
Ensure effective resource allocation, adequate staffing, and utilization to meet project and team goals.
Assist in recruiting top engineering talent who align with the team’s technical excellence and company culture.
Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance team performance.
Stay current with transportation design trends and emerging technologies, integrating them into project solutions.
Contribute to the organization’s technical strategy and help forecast future technical needs.
Qualifications
B.S. degree in Civil Engineering.
8–15 years of experience in civil transportation engineering.
Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred or ability to obtain it.
Prior staff management preferred.
Proficiency in MS Office; MicroStation preferred.
Familiarity with NYDOT design standards preferred.
