Position Summary The Level III Automation Maintenance Technician serves as the subject‑matter expert for highly automated distribution environments. This role leads complex troubleshooting, drives automation performance improvements, partners with vendors on integrations/upgrades, and mentors the maintenance team. The Level III ensures maximum system uptime and reliability across conveyors, robotics, AutoStore, sortation, PLCs, and networked control systems.

Key Responsibilities Expert Troubleshooting & System Optimization

Lead diagnosis of high‑complexity mechanical, electrical, and controls issues (PLC logic, I/O, communications, VFD tuning, servo systems).

Execute advanced repairs, system calibrations, and performance optimizations for AutoStore, robotics, AS/RS, conveyors, and sortation technologies.

Interpret and modify PLC logic with vendor support as needed.

Automation Reliability & Continuous Improvement

Own root‑cause analysis for chronic failures; develop long‑term corrective solutions.

Identify component, design, and process improvements to reduce downtime and increase throughput.

Support major shutdowns, overhauls, and capital equipment installations.

Technical Mentorship & Leadership

Train Level I and II Technicians; provide ongoing coaching and skill development.

Lead shift coverage planning for automation support.

Act as primary liaison with Bastian, AutoStore, robotics integrators, and IT/Engineering partners.

Safety & Compliance Champion

Drive a safety‑first culture; model perfect LOTO and hazard‑assessment practices.

Lead safety improvements, audits, and cross‑functional training.

Maintain expert‑level documentation, CMMS accuracy, and vendor service logs.

Qualifications

6+ years experience in automation, robotics, conveyor/sortation, or complex electro‑mechanical systems.

Strong PLC troubleshooting skills (Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent).

Experience with AutoStore, goods‑to‑person systems, or major integrator platforms.

Ability to lead teams, collaborate with engineers, and influence cross‑functional partners.

Strong analytical ability with a continuous improvement mindset.
