Title: Director of Merchandising Operations

Location: Washington, D.C.

Salary: Competitive salary and benefits package based on qualifications; classified as full-time salaried; exempt and not eligible for overtime.

Reports to: Fiona Bora, Chief Merchandising Officer

Travel: Occasional travel may be required

Position Overview The Director of Merchandising Operations is the strategic and operational right hand to the Chief Merchandising Officer, responsible for ensuring the merchandising organization runs smoothly, efficiently, and in alignment with company goals. This leader drives operational excellence, leads key strategic initiatives, enables cross-functional collaboration, and serves as the connective tissue between merchandising, planning, web merchandising, supply chain, marketing, finance, and executive leadership.

Core Responsibilities

Drive merchandising strategy & planning by translating the CMO’s priorities into clear operating plans, calendars, and KPIs.

Help drive and align key milestone meetings across verticals and categories.

Establish, maintain, and enforce the seasonal merchandising and go-to-market calendar, ensuring all teams hit key gates and milestones. Create and maintain standard templates, briefs, recaps, and reporting mechanisms so stakeholders have consistent visibility into goals, changes, and decisions.

Optimize merchandising processes (line reviews, assortment milestones, workflows) to improve speed, consistency, and cross-team accountability.

Lead cross-functional alignment across Planning, Supply Chain, Product, Finance, and Marketing to ensure coordinated execution of seasonal and go-to-market plans.

Provide business insights & performance reporting through dashboards, analytics, and weekly business reviews to support data-driven decisions.

Drive structured hindsight analyses to identify wins, misses, operational gaps, and opportunities for improvement each season.

Coordinate with Marketing on receipts & inventory to align campaigns and product storytelling with real-time product flow and availability.

Collaborate with Planning & Merch leaders to analyze SKU efficiency, category performance, and opportunities to rationalize or expand the assortment.

Minimum Qualifications

8–12+ years in merchandising, planning, operations, product, or retail strategy

Bachelor’s degree required

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Strong project management and cross-functional leadership skills

Analytical mindset with ability to translate data into action

Excellent communicator and organizational systems builder

Excels in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
