Role Overview
– NC State University invites applications for the position of Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost. The Provost will lead the university on continued growth and improvement while staying focused on the core mission of improving communities — big and small, global and local — through teaching, research and outreach.

Department Overview The Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost (Office) supports NC State’s success by promoting a campus culture of outstanding teaching, innovation, extension and engagement within and beyond the campus. The Office aligns its efforts with the university’s strategic plan and empowers the university community to gain momentum on strategic goals through oversight of academics and creating a home for the nation’s brightest faculty.
Responsibilities
Advance the academic mission of the university and serve as an advocate for the success of the academic enterprise.
Lead the academic planning process, encouraging interdisciplinary initiatives across academic programs and with other university areas.
Build the capacity and quality of faculty, enhancing the faculty experience.
Manage institutional and organizational change at a brisk pace without being disruptive.
Work closely with the chief financial officer to oversee the allocation of state funds associated with enrollment and tuition across academic affairs, aligning resources with NC State’s strategic plan.
Strategically manage resources amid increasing financial constraint, recognizing that growth may require reallocating resources from lower‑priority areas.
Collaborate with the chancellor and other senior university officers, navigating the political context surrounding any public institution.
Provide climate transparency, accessibility and trustworthiness essential to a climate of mutual respect on and beyond campus.
Focus on student academic success and a positive collegiate experience.
Support the university’s research portfolio and priorities established by the vice chancellor of research and innovation.
Partner with the vice chancellor and dean for the Division of Academic and Student Affairs, promoting student support programs.
Sustain and expand NC State’s entrepreneurial and innovative spirit and its support for the development of the state and region.
Advance NC State’s global commitments and engage students and faculty internationally.
Build extramural and philanthropic support to increase institutional resources.
Other relevant duties as assigned.
Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience
Doctoral degree, equivalent terminal degree, or equivalent professional experience required. Record of accomplishment in teaching and scholarship that warrants appointment as a full professor with tenure within one of NC State’s academic colleges required.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated record of excellence in scholarship, teaching, grant support and professional service.
Background in managing a large department, school or college, or previous experience as a provost or other comparable academic leader.
Understanding and commitment to the land‑grant concept and the unique complexities of large research university programs.
Proven success working with interdisciplinary teams and supporting a culture of teamwork.
Strong record of recruiting, developing and retaining faculty.
Demonstrated fundraising ability and effective relationships with external constituencies.
Proven record of success with a broad student constituency and supporting academic achievement of all students.
Experience working with student affairs divisions, aligning academic enterprise with student support services.
Appreciation of NCAA Division I athletics challenges and opportunities related to the student experience and academic mission of NC State.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to establish credibility with internal and external constituents.
Strong and flexible leadership that will enable NC State to respond to a rapidly changing and highly competitive environment and continually improve the quality and reputation of its programs nationally and internationally.
