Position Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Principal Process Engineer to join our dynamic team at thyssenkrupp nucera USA. This role requires a Professional Engineer (PE) license and expertise in chemical process engineering. This candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing processes related to green hydrogen and chlor-alkali production while ensuring compliance with regulatory and industry standards. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting‑edge projects and contribute to the advancement of sustainable energy solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Provide subject matter expertise within the process engineering team, focusing on alkaline water electrolysis (AWE) systems for green hydrogen, chlor-alkali, and hydrogen chloride/hydrochloric acid (HCI) electrolysis.

Support & review the production of deliverables to fulfill project needs, working individually or as part of a team depending on project size and scope.

Develop the process deliverables, including Basis of Design, process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), heat and mass balances, material selection diagrams, equipment lists, consumer lists, process control strategies, utility consumption lists, process data for equipment, fluid lists, line lists, and operation manuals.

Review and certify engineering documents, drawings, and designs (including PFDs, P&IDs, specifications, and reports) to ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements as a licensed Professional Engineer.

Ensure process engineering deliverables meet project requirements, safety regulations, and industry standards.

Coordinate and support design activities between disciplines to ensure a comprehensive and integrated design package.

Act as the technical contact for client, design team, third‑party, and vendor communication related to Process Design.

Participate in model, design, maintenance, and operability reviews.

Ensure strict compliance with specifications and codes for North American installations.

Review and provide expert comments on vendor packages developed by third‑party suppliers.

Manage third‑party supplier interfaces as required, including checking drawings, specifications, and calculations, and providing technical input into vendor review and selection processes.

Provide site support for commissioning and start‑up activities.

Required Skills and Abilities

Experience with process simulation tools (Aspen Plus, HYSYS, or similar) and object‑based engineering tools like COMOS & AutoCAD design tools.

Ability to work in a cross‑functional team and communicate complex technical concepts effectively.

Familiarity with process safety management (PSM), HAZOP, and risk assessment.

Knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and mass transfer.

Comprehensive knowledge of chemical processes including static equipment and piping systems (preferred: electrolysis technology).

Proficiency in using Microsoft Office software.

Ability to travel as required (10‑20%).

Proficient in communicating within the project team and working with team members across all disciplines to produce a comprehensive engineering package.

Self‑starter with the ability to complete project deliverables with minimal supervision.

Required Qualifications

Professional Licensure: Must hold a valid Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas.

Education: Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.

Experience: Minimum of 8 years in process engineering within electrolysis, chemical, or energy industries.

Licensure Mobility: Completion of NCEES Record to support multi‑state PE license transfers.

Preferred Qualifications

Professional Licensure: Licensure in Louisiana and Arizona.

Education: Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.

Model Law Engineer (MLE): Designation is preferred.

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

Must be able to visit plant sites on special occasions.
