Senior Development Engineer – Power Generation
Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Senior Development Engineer to join our Power global practice in the Kansas City, MO office. This role focuses on all aspects of project development for heavy industrial and conventional energy generation projects.
Essential Responsibilities
Lead project development efforts from initial concept to execution plan implementation.
Manage and coordinate a multi‑disciplined support team across multiple global practices and office locations.
Interface heavily with customers and clients to identify project drivers and develop solutions.
Maintain project schedules and manage team to meet established due dates.
Own and ensure timely completion of all assigned project development activities.
Lead engineering for projects in the pipeline and multi‑task among several projects simultaneously.
Optimize design approach, execution approach, and project solutions considering technical and economic parameters.
Understand industry and market economic conditions to support project cost estimates.
Maintain current knowledge of conventional and emerging technologies and prevailing commercial information.
Lead technical proposal efforts for heavy industrial and conventional generation project development.
Support business development efforts to identify, define, and capture new projects.
Participate in industry conferences and publications to expand Burns & McDonnell’s presence in the energy market.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program.
7 years of relevant experience required; a Master’s degree can substitute for one year of experience.
Previous consulting engineering experience strongly preferred.
Project development, project management, and project implementation experience a plus.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present complex information to all levels.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Ability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies in a dynamic energy market.
Experience with estimating or designing power generation systems preferred.
Ability to multi‑task and manage numerous projects/tasks simultaneously within an aggressive schedule.
Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high‑pressure environment while maintaining project schedules and target due dates.
