The Director of Manufacturing will be responsible for the management of all areas of Manufacturing to produce material handling equipment products and direct activities so that all products are manufactured on-schedule and within quality standards and cost. Responsibilities include collaboration with other manufacturing/assembly operations globally.
Essential Functions
Establishes short and long-range strategic operating objectives for manufacturing operations. Plans, directs, manages and oversees plant operations including production, material planning, warehouse, quality, safety, shipping and receiving, and maintenance; ensures compliance with federal and state regulations; monitors and enforces quality control standards; forecasts and schedules production; develops and/or approves all plant operating policies.
Responsible for achieving optimum labor, with the least amount of overhead and material costs. Works closely with engineering department to maximize efficiency in the design and production.
Develops budgets and operational plans in accordance with overall financial and operations goals for the plant and company. Reviews organizational and manpower planning to ensure they are consistent and adequate for the attainment of plant production and utilization objectives.
Develops capital expenditure plans including facility and capacity improvements as well as tooling and fixtures for new or existing products. Oversees major projects, (including plant layout changes, installation of capital equipment, new product line additions, and major repairs).
Provide leadership in quality systems and processes that will produce product to industry leading quality levels while driving for continuous improvement through the development of a quality first culture.
Ensures inventory levels are maintained to support production while meeting financial benchmarks for turnover and inventory accuracy.
Formulates manufacturing policies and programs which guide the organization in maintaining and improving its competitive position and the profitability of the operation.
Identify and implement changes by analyzing production operations and developing alternatives to continuously improve product quality, cost reductions and implement process improvements.
Implement cost effective systems of control over capital, operating expenditures, manpower, minimize overtime, and warranty expenses. Develop department(s) operating budget and monitor spending to conform within budget limits.
Manage policy development in the areas of Lean Manufacturing techniques. Champion continuous improvement activities. Assess departmental staff and recommend training initiatives. Promote team member involvement activities. Provide leadership for problem resolution to facilitate fast improvements.
Direct and monitor department supervisors to accomplish goals of the manufacturing plan, consistent with established manufacturing, quality and safety procedures. Act as liaison between department supervisory management/subordinate levels, to inform personnel of communications, decisions, policies and all matters that affect their performance, attitudes and results.
Hire, train, develop and evaluate staff. Take corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy. Ensure compliance with current federal, state and local regulations.
Work effectively and relate well with others. Exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others, working to maintain constructive working relationships.
Basic Qualifications
BA/BS in industrial, mechanical or business administration degree in related discipline minimum, A Master’s degree is preferred
Minimum of 10 years with a manufacturing organization with prior plant management experience preferably in the material handling industry, heavy equipment or automotive industry
Must possess experience and ability to provide leadership in the development of teams that will engage employees and empower them to drive continuous improvement.
Extensive experience with Lean manufacturing techniques, 5S, ISO, manufacturing methods, process improvement programs
Must be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities and easily adapt to changing situations and be extremely organized.
Efficient computer skills, in Microsoft office and particularly in shop floor control, production planning, and inventory control applications.
Prior budget and business plan development and management.
Demonstrated ability to achieve results.
Demonstrated strategic ability, business acumen and change leadership capability.
Strong interpersonal, communications and leadership skills
Must be authorized to work in the U.S indefinitely
Must be able to travel internationally if needed.
