Job Summary Under the supervision of the Director of Quality Improvement, the Assistant Director of Quality Improvement (QI) will assist in the planning, organization, and coordination of agency compliance efforts for licensure, accreditation, regulatory and governmental agency standards. The Assistant Director of QI is responsible for upholding regulations established by the Departments of Children and Family Services, Probation and Mental Health of the County of Los Angeles.
Essential Functions
Assist in agency compliance with relevant county, state, federal and COA regulations/standards
Conduct clinical trainings for staff including but not limited to documentation and mental health assessments
Assist with improving department workflow systems and administrative forms
Assist with developing department related policies and procedures as well as best practice guidelines, checklists and trainings
Collaborate with other programs/departments to understand QI support.
Support QI staff to maintain medical record audit readiness and participate actively during agency external audits
Complete monthly clinical case record review to manage risk
Complete monthly reports regarding completed case record reviews and risk assessment.
Conduct periodic internal audits of client charts from all programs/departments with a focus on compliance, accuracy, quality and medical necessity
Assist newly hired employees with understanding QI standards and general processes.
Plan and conduct orientation on HIPAA, regulatory updates and or changes
Prepare reports, supply information and organize documentation
Serve as a resource for staff implementation of departmental Quality Management and Utilization Review
Sensitive and responsive to the cultural differences among the agency’s client population
Actively participate in quality improvement projects
The Assistant Director of QI will take on special projects or additional duties as assigned by the Director of Quality Improvement and/or the Chief Operating Officer.
Qualifications Competency Requirements:
Highly organized
Experience with training and orienting staff on regulatory updates
Ability to speak, read, write and understand English
Ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
Possess an open mind and be adaptable to handling a wide variety of tasks as they arise
Strong time management skills
Must have working knowledge of Council on Accreditation (COA), DMH, DCFS and Probation standards and regulations
Education and Experience:
Master’s degree in Social Work, Marriage Family Therapy or Psychology or from a regionally accredited university required
Experience in Quality Improvement/Utilization Review/Clinical Records Programs in a hospital or mental health setting preferred
Experience in a supervisory position preferred
Certifications/Licenses:
LMFT or LCSW issued by the Board of Behavioral Sciences or license eligible
Valid CA driver’s license
Additional Requirements:
Tuberculosis clearance
Department of Justice/Fingerprint clearance
Satisfactory completion of health screening
Proof of legal eligibility to work in the United States
Satisfactory driving record

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of a Clinical QI Coordinator, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, and use their fingers to manipulate a keyboard or writing instrument. The employee is occasionally required to walk, drive, bend, or lift objects heavier than 10 pounds. The employee is rarely required to run.
Work Environment:
The work environment is primarily indoors. The noise level varies from quiet to moderate.
