Job Summary The Associate Provost for Digital Learning & Innovation provides strategic and operational leadership to advance the university's mission through innovation, access, and excellence in online education. This leader guides the design, development, and continuous improvement of online and hybrid offerings, integrating emerging technologies (AI, VR, AR) and innovative pedagogies to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.
Serving as a key liaison between academic units and digital infrastructure, the Associate Provost fosters cross‑campus collaboration to support program growth, ensure compliance with accreditation standards, and create a cohesive digital learning ecosystem aligned with the university's strategic priorities.
Minimum Education and Experience Master's degree. 5 years higher education work experience.
Preferred Education and Experience Doctoral degree in a relevant discipline with 5 years of progressive leadership in educational technology or online program management.
Other Qualifications To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Innovation & Strategic Planning:
Lead university‑wide initiatives to identify and implement emerging technologies (AI, VR, AR). Develop and execute a long‑term strategic plan that positions the university as a national leader in accessible, innovative digital education.
Program Growth & Operational Implementation:
Lead strategic initiatives to increase enrollment and retention in online/hybrid programs. Establish the administrative workflows, data tracking systems, and logistical infrastructure necessary to support sustained program expansion.
LMS & Infrastructure Optimization:
Lead the team responsible for the administration and optimization of the Learning Management System (LMS). Use data analytics and predictive modeling to identify trends, support at‑risk students, and improve overall student outcomes.
Faculty Support & Instructional Design:
Oversee instructional design services and lead professional development opportunities focused on innovative teaching practices, design, and digital pedagogy.
Compliance & Accreditation:
Ensure that all online and hybrid instruction meet accreditation, federal, and state regulatory requirements. Collaborate with OISDS and Academic Affairs to demonstrate compliance and continuous improvement.
Budget Management:
Manage the departmental budget, including oversight for the eLearning team and support of the LMS.
Skills Required
Proficiency with Learning Management Systems such as Canvas or Blackboard
Familiarity with educational testing platforms and secure test administration tools
Understanding of system integrations between LMS and other campus technologies
Working knowledge of accessibility standards, including ADA compliance and Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
Strategic planning and implementation of academic technology initiatives
Staff supervision and team development
Policy development and enforcement, particularly related to academic integrity, accessibility, and compliance
Budget planning and resource allocation
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong collaboration skills
Adaptability and innovation
