Position Overview The Blood Bank Section Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the blood bank within the hospital laboratory. This role ensures the accurate, timely, and safe testing, preparation, and distribution of blood products in accordance with regulatory and accreditation standards. Responsibilities include supervising blood bank personnel, maintaining rigorous quality control programs, troubleshooting instruments and testing issues, ensuring full compliance with transfusion service and safety protocols, and supporting training and competency assessments. The supervisor also works closely with clinical teams to support transfusion needs, manages inventory of blood products, and participates in the evaluation and implementation of new technologies, testing methods, and procedures.

Position Status: Full‑time

Work Schedule: Days, 10‑hr shifts (40 hours per week)

Education Qualifications

Baccalaureate degree in chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution, completed and approved ASCP (or equivalent) certification pathway or satisfied CLIA requirements for HEW certification, with one year in an accredited laboratory training program.

Associate degree in clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution, completed and approved ASCP (or equivalent) certification pathway or satisfied CLIA requirements for HEW certification, with one year in an accredited laboratory training program.

Certification Qualifications

Required: Certification eligibility as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLS ASCP), MT (AMT), MLT (ASCP), HEW, or CLS (NCA) or equivalent. For individuals having completed certification requirements in 2004 or later, registry required within 12 months of completion of school/training or equivalent education documentation per CLIA standards. Individuals qualified for certification prior to December 31, 2003, are not required to maintain yearly certification.

Experience Qualifications

At least two years of laboratory experience in high‑complexity testing in the respective specialty with a 4‑year degree, or four years of laboratory experience in high‑complexity testing accompanied by a 2‑year degree.

Pay Range

$25.71–$41.65 per hour
