WHAT YOU'LL DO
Under the direction of a Grounds Maintenance Supervisor, perform a variety of grounds keeping tasks for an assigned area of a campus; assist grounds maintenance crews as assigned for large-scale grounds maintenance projects.
One full‑time position (12 months/year, 40 hours/week) located at Ventura College.
- Plant, cultivate, prune, fertilize and irrigate flowers, trees, shrubs and lawns.
- Operate motorized equipment such as mowers, hedgers, trucks, tractors and sweepers.
- Operate irrigation systems, trim and prune around trees, shrubs and hedges.
- Maintain grounds: trash pick‑up and removal, weeding, raking, keeping areas clean.
- Plant new lawns, trees, shrubs, hedges and flowers.
- Apply herbicide, prepare mixtures, maintain records, prepare pesticide paperwork.
- Repair, replace and service sprinkler heads; inspect and report malfunctions.
- Maintain tracks and athletic fields for events.
- Locate, trap and bait rodents.
- Assist in resurfacing asphalt; mix and pour cement.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, students and stakeholders.
- Demonstrate cultural humility, sensitivity and equity‑mindedness.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
WHERE YOU'LL WORK
Ventura College is a 112‑acre campus located approximately 60 miles north of Los Angeles. The campus offers a vibrant communities and the opportunity to work in a beautiful outdoor environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
One year of gardening or grounds maintenance experience in a commercial or public setting, including experience operating blowers, mowers, weeders, hedgers, and edgers.
