About the Company and the Accounting Manager Opportunity:


  • CFS is partnering with a non profit organization to find a Accounting Manager to join their team on a contract to hire basis
    • This position can become permanent for the right candidate after contract period depending on performance and fit within the organization
  • Schedule: Core hours: 8am-4pm M-F, 40 hours per week. Ideal candidate must be willing to come at least in 3 days per week on site to Ridgely, MD location.
    • Flexible start time and free parking provided!
  • Reports to the CFO
  • Start Date: End of December 2025/Beginning of January 2026
  • Salary: $85,000-$95,000

Job Duties of the Accounting Manager:

  • Supervise and support a team of three, providing guidance, advice, and hands-on support as needed
  • Work side-by-side with staff to ensure accuracy
  • Manage performance, time, and attendance of direct reports; develop training programs to support staff growth and departmental goals
  • Serve as the primary liaison for the external audit; complete assigned schedules, document procedures, and ensure staff are prepared to take over recurring schedules after transition
  • Oversee accounts payable, including reviewing and approving ACH payments, verifying coding and vendor details, signing checks, and ensuring timely vendor payments
  • Oversee the general ledger and lead the monthly close process, coordinating staff contributions and ensuring accuracy of all entries and reconciliations
  • Prepare, review, and approve financial analyses, reconciliations, journal entries, billbacks, fixed assets, Medicaid billing, sales tax filings, and other required reports
  • Support accounts receivable processes by monitoring aging, ensuring reconciliations are accurate, and stepping in to resolve issues as needed
  • Review tuition projections and record monthly tuition revenue
  • Maintain and update departmental policies and procedure manuals
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Review funding agency contracts for reporting requirements and ensure compliance
  • Perform periodic filing, audits, and file maintenance

Qualifications for the Accounting Manager: xrczosw

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related highly preferred
  • 3+ years of hands-on accounting and managerial experience in a non profit environment required
    • Strong audit experience required
    • Experience with DDA and/or MSDE preferred
  • Experience using Sage 100 a plus, but not required
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, lookups, etc.)
  • Strong attention to detail, great communication skills, ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries form internal and external parties
  • Willing and able to get in the weeds of accounting work and mentor and communicate effectively with junior accounting staff
  • Able to pass a criminal background check
