The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Full Time Receptionist/HR Clerk for the Sarasota County Area Command located in Sarasota, Florida.

Responsibilities

  • Answer the telephone in a courteous manner and direct calls to the appropriate destination; record accurate and complete messages when necessary; greet and announce visitors and clients; provide general information about The Salvation Army's operations and services.
  • Under supervision of an immediate supervisor, perform clerical support for the Human Resources department, including maintaining the filing system of HR documents and processing paperwork from the field; complete HR agendas on status changes and transfers, field terminations.
  • Assist with verification of employment; perform routine typing and photocopying of recurring correspondence, forms, lists, logs, records, etc.; answer the telephone and provide general information regarding department operations and services; assist with processing of incoming and outgoing mail.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Direct phone calls to the appropriate person or destination.
  • Use or learn to use a multi-button phone system.
  • Courteous and tactful response to callers and visitors.
  • Record accurate and complete messages.
  • Perform clerical support work while operating the switchboard.
  • Maintain an adequate supply of applications, informative materials and brochures for distribution.
  • Respond to emergencies calmly and effectively.
  • Project a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.
  • Follow both verbal and written instructions.
  • Maintain an efficient and organized filing system for timely retrieval of items.
  • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365 Software and Apps.
  • Maintain the confidential nature of personnel information.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of staff.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED required, supplemented by additional secretarial courses preferred.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Ability to type and keypunch information into a computer.
  • Ability to operate general office equipment including a computer, photocopy machine, typewriter, facsimile, calculator.
  • Ability to answer the telephone courteously and tactfully.
  • Ability to sort and file items alphabetically and numerically.
  • Duties are usually performed seated; standing or walking may briefly relieve seating.
  • Limited physical effort required for walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.
  • Work is performed in a normal office environment with minimal discomfort from weather, noise, dust, or dirt.
