Position Summary: The Department of Political Science and Public Affairs at Western Carolina University is offering a tenure‑track Assistant Professor position in American government and politics. The anticipated start date is August 2026. The successful candidate will teach six courses per year—sections of Introduction to American Government and upper‑level courses in Congress and the U.S. Presidency—contribute to scholarship with a promising research agenda focused on Congress and/or the presidency, and participate in service to the university, region, and profession. This nine‑month position includes the possibility of summer teaching.
Responsibilities: • Teach undergraduate courses (six per year). • Develop and maintain a research program on Congress and/or the presidency. • Engage in service activities at the department, university and professional levels.
Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD in Political Science or related field from an accredited institution. ABD candidates may be considered with degree conferral by December 30 2026.
- A promising research agenda related to Congress and/or the presidency.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior university‑level teaching experience and a desire to perform service to the university, region, and profession.
