Fay School seeks an innovative, collaborative, and experienced educator/administrator to serve as Dean of Academic Excellence, a position that will commence on July 1, 2026.
The ideal candidate will hold a master’s degree in education, educational leadership, curriculum instruction, or related field. A minimum of 5–7 years of teaching experience and prior leadership or administrative experience is preferred.
The Dean of Academic Excellence serves as an academic leader responsible for advancing academic quality, ensuring cohesive curriculum design, and supporting a culture of continuous improvement in teaching and learning. This role oversees academic programming, curriculum development, faculty evaluation and support, student performance data analysis, and scheduling across grades K–9. The Dean collaborates with teachers, division heads, and the Associate Head of School to ensure an engaging, rigorous, and mission-aligned academic experience for all students. Reporting to the Associate Head of School, the Dean of Academic Excellence oversees the Registrar, Director of Learning Services, and the Library program and serves as the bridge between school year and summer educational programming.
This is a full-time, 12-month position.

Leading the design, implementation, and ongoing refinement of a cohesive, standards-aligned K–9 curriculum, including student symposia programming
Ensuring vertical and horizontal alignment across subjects and grade levels through curriculum mapping
Developing and managing the annual academic schedule, ensuring efficient use of instructional time and resources
Coordinating assessment calendars, special programming, and enrichment programs
Supporting alignment between academic, co‑curricular, and student support services
Spearheading research and drafting developmentally appropriate academic policies
Inspiring curriculum innovation and interdisciplinary learning opportunities in collaboration with the Dean of Educational Innovation; integrating best practices in pedagogy, assessment, and differentiated instruction
Conducting regular classroom observations and teacher evaluations to provide constructive feedback and support professional growth; promoting a culture of collaboration, reflective practice, and continuous improvement
Overseeing systems for collecting, tracking, and analyzing student academic performance using data to identify trends, inform instruction, and guide interventions; supporting teachers in using data to personalize learning and improve outcomes
Leading the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of high-quality teachers, ensuring that new faculty receive mentoring and training aligned with the School’s mission and teaching standards
Supporting teacher and student retention through a positive, professional, and collaborative culture
Serving as liaison with summer program directors to ensure programs are aligned with Fay standards
Teaching in the summer program would be welcome and encouraged
Representing the School at conferences, in professional networks, and at hiring fairs, positioning the School as a leader in educational innovation, equity, inclusion and belonging
Collaborating effectively with Admission and Marketing & Communications to showcase the excellence of the academic program
Teaching one class as a member of an academic department and coaching one season
