The Senior Network Operations Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of a 24/7 Network Operations Center (NOC) and leading the NOC team. This position will report to the VP of Engineering and work closely with both the VP of Engineering and the VP of SCADA and Controls for guidance and training. This role involves designing, maintaining, and utilizing the UIG NOC located in the UIG Global Headquarters in Raleigh, NC. The UIG NOC handles the dispatch of load management assets across the UIG fleet, along with coordinating with customers during events and alarm conditions. This position will support the integration of UIG’s GridSure platform and be the center of focus for the NOC Controls Engineers.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the dispatch of UIG and customer assets for load management and other events, remotely or from the UIG NOC
Oversee the design, maintenance, and function of the UIG NOC with input from the Systems Engineering team
Manage the scheduling of NOC employees to ensure 24/7 coverage requirements are met
Summarize data and provide reports on results
Manage programming and implementation of integrated solutions using the GridSure application software, web UI framework, and industrial control hardware
Create complete and accurate product and programming designs for internal UIG and customer use
Produce programming files for control and communication devices associated with GridSure applications
Proactively contribute to business development, proposal development, and networking initiatives
Perform QA checks for team deliverables, such as incident and request item tickets
Work with the Systems Engineering team and customers to specify, set up, and commission field devices to be connected to the GridSure platform
Experience with OPC UA protocol and at least two other protocols: Modbus, DNP3, IEC61850, Profinet, or MQTT
Ensure schedules and milestone dates are met
Provide coordination and documentation for internal UIG teams
Resolve issues or questions for the Systems Engineering team
Work with engineering drawings, sketches, and technical specifications
Modify programs based on verbal instructions, sketches, drawings, and conceptual descriptions
Perform Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) as needed
Demonstrate continuous improvement efforts in operations, reducing turnaround times, and streamlining work processes
Communicate effectively with engineers, drafters, and manufacturing personnel
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related technical field from an accredited university
10-15+ years of experience in automation systems, power generation systems, and SCADA integration
Strong experience with MES/SCADA, PLCs, and industrial networks
Experience with Inductive Automation’s Ignition platform, especially Perspective
Experience with SQL databases and programming
Experience with industrial protocols such as Modbus, Profinet/Profibus, CANopen, J1939, EtherCAT, and MQTT
Experience with TIA Portal
Willingness to learn CODESYS
Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills with a focus on continuous improvement
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
Ability to interact effectively with peers and management
Ability to work from the Raleigh headquarters as required
Willingness to travel up to 25% of the year
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proficient in MS Office applications like Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Preferred: Proficiency with communications-related software such as Modscan, Wireshark, NMap, etc
Proficient in SQL and relational databases
Proficient in Java programming
Proficiency with PLC programming tools and languages (TIA Portal, CODESYS, Structured Text, Ladder Logic, etc.)
Preferred: Proficiency with industrial automation software packages such as TIA Portal, Crimson 3, Proficy, and protective relaying applications
Knowledge of drafting standards
Preferred: Experience with various industrial protocols such as Modbus, Profinet/Profibus, CANopen, J1939, EtherCAT, MQTT
Familiarity with symbols and terminology used in electrical and mechanical engineering drawings
Occasional requirement to inspect in-process work and the ability to position oneself in various positions (including low to the ground or high on equipment)
Occasional assistance in moving materials and equipment (approximately 40lbs)
Manual dexterity to operate digital equipment, including computers and machine controllers
Occasional exposure to electrical testing and other industrial processes
