Job Title: Cisco Network Engineer

Job Summary The Cisco Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, managing, and supporting network infrastructure built around Cisco technologies. This role ensures network performance, reliability, and security across LAN, WAN, wireless, and data center environments. The position involves both project-based work and day-to-day operational support, with a focus on maintaining a robust and scalable enterprise network. Key Responsibilities Design, configure, and maintain Cisco networking equipment, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless controllers, and access points Monitor and manage network performance, ensuring high availability, security, and optimal throughput Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues across multiple layers (Layer 17) Implement and maintain routing protocols such as OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP Configure and manage network security solutions, including Cisco ASA/FTD firewalls, VPNs, ACLs, and identity-based access controls Support and optimize enterprise wireless networks (Cisco WLC, access points, RF tuning) Work with cross-functional teams to support network needs for new applications, services, and systems Maintain accurate network documentation, diagrams, and configuration standards Participate in on-call rotation and respond to after-hours network issues as needed Assist with planning and executing network upgrades, migrations, and technology refreshes Ensure compliance with security best practices and organizational IT policies Required Qualifications and Experience 35+ years of hands-on experience with Cisco networking technologies Strong understanding of TCP/IP, VLANs, STP, routing protocols, QoS, and network security fundamentals Proficiency with Cisco IOS, IOS-XE, and NX-OS Experience with Cisco firewalls, VPN technologies, and security appliances Experience troubleshooting Layer 2/3 network issues in enterprise environments Familiarity with network monitoring and management tools (SolarWinds, Cisco Prime, DNA Center, etc.) Ability to create and interpret network diagrams (Visio or similar tools) Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills Preferred Qualifications Cisco certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent experience Experience with SD-WAN technologies Exposure to Cisco ISE, DNA Center, Umbrella, or other advanced Cisco solutions Knowledge of cloud networking (AWS, Azure, GCP) Understanding of virtualization and data center networking concepts (VLANs, VxLAN, FabricPath) Education Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field preferred Equivalent work experience will be considered Soft Skills Strong communication and documentation abilities Ability to work independently or as part of a team Detail-oriented with strong organizational and prioritization skills Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
