Test Automation Architect

Role: Test Automation Architect Location: US Remote

About the Role Role Overview We are looking for a seasoned Test Automation Architect with strong expertise in Playwright (TypeScript) and proven experience in designing scalable test automation frameworks and strategies. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in defining test automation standards, driving test architecture decisions, and mentoring teams to ensure quality delivery across complex, distributed systems.

Key Responsibilities

Test Architecture & Strategy

Define, design, and implement scalable, maintainable, and reusable automation frameworks using Playwright with TypeScript.

Establish the best automation practices, coding standards, and reusable component libraries.

Create comprehensive test strategies, test plans, and estimation models aligned with product goals and delivery timelines.

Evaluate and integrate tools to improve test coverage, performance, and CI/CD pipeline efficiency.

Automation Development & Implementation

Build and maintain robust end-to-end automation suites for UI, API, and functional testing.

Develop utilities and frameworks that support data-driven, modular, and parallel execution models.

Integrate automation with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).

Ensure automation frameworks are scalable across multiple projects and teams.

Quality Leadership

Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Developers, DevOps, Product, QA) to ensure quality is embedded throughout the SDLC.

Provide technical leadership and mentorship to QA teams on automation design, code reviews, and best practices.

Define metrics and KPIs for quality assurance and automation effectiveness.

Drive innovation in test automation processes, tools, and methodologies.

Communication & Stakeholder Management

Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Present automation strategies, test reports, and risk assessments to leadership teams.

Collaborate closely with engineering and product teams to align automation goals with business objectives.

Required Skills & Qualifications

10+ years of experience in Software Testing / Quality Engineering.

5+ years of hands‑on automation experience with Playwright (TypeScript strongly preferred).

Strong understanding of test automation architecture, design patterns, and frameworks.

Expertise in test strategy, planning, design, estimation, and execution.

Hands‑on experience integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines.

Experience with API testing (REST/GraphQL) and related automation tools.

Deep knowledge of QA methodologies, SDLC, STLC, and modern testing practices (BDD, TDD).

Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with other automation tools (Cypress, Selenium, or WebdriverIO).

Knowledge of performance testing, security testing, or test data management.

Prior experience in mentoring QA teams or defining enterprise test automation strategies.

A competitive pay range for the role is $120,000 - $130,000.
