MALCOLM X COLLEGE
The Federal Work-Study Program (FWS) is a federally-funded financial aid program that provides subsidized part-time employment for eligible students in order to assist them with postsecondary financial needs. City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) complies with the Department of Education’s regulations regarding the FWS program and allows students to benefit from this opportunity.
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE The FWS program encourages students to gain experience in their prospective fields by placing them in areas and departments aligned with their area of study whenever possible. Students are able to use their wages towards educational and living expenses.
FWS jobs are available in areas such as academic departments, laboratories, libraries, administrative offices, student centers, and several off-campus locations.
FWS Students Must Meet Eligibility Requirements:
Adhere to the City Colleges of Chicago Customer Services Excellence Standards.
Must be a part of the Student Financial Aid Program and approved for Federal Work-Study
Must successfully pass CCC hiring process (may include criminal background check & drug screening if sensitive responsibilities are in the job description)
Applicants must be 16 years or older, have work permit consent, and eligible to work in the United States
Must be actively attending one of the City Colleges of Chicago – Malcolm X College must be the home campus.
Applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 semester hours pre-credit or credit classes
Applicants must be pursuing an approved educational credential, degree, or certificate
Applicants must have and maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA (waived for first semester new students)
Applicants must be in “good standing” – no City Colleges of Chicago academic restrictions
Applicants must not be current Full or Part-time employees of the City Colleges of Chicago
All positions are “employment at-will”
High School Diploma required or actively pursuing a GED at the City Colleges of Chicago
Must attend trainings and workshops as required

Provide general office support including but not limited to filing, faxing, photocopying, and data entry
Works with department staff on special assignments that may include filling, completing spreadsheets, making copies, creating flyers, and assisting at special events
Assist as a greeter for the department interacting with other students, faculty, and staff and checking in students that have appointments or walk-in for assistance

LAB ASSISTANTS FWS Lab Assistant roles in Pharmacy Technology
Essential Duties for FWS Lab Assistants:
Set up lab items for specific labs
Place inventory items on shelves
Organize and label lab items
Give tours of labs as needed
Replace old medicine bottles with new ones
Scan papers into specified folders
Other duties as needed
Additional Minimum Qualifications:
No lab experience required.
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs.
DIGITAL MEDIA ASSISTANTS FWS roles in the PBI Grant/Office of Instruction
Malcolm X College’s Pipeline to Careers in Healthcare seeks a motivated digital media intern with great attention to detail. The Pipeline Careers in Healthcare works to inspire and support Black males working in healthcare fields. The team is seeking a digital media intern to help reach our target population online.
Essential Duties for FWS Digital Media roles:
Create content for various social media platforms
Monitor various social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for insightful conversations
Analyze analytics to gauge the success of campaigns
Understand the overall concept of the Pipeline to Careers in Healthcare program, including what we do, who we serve, project goals, and how we support the college
Provide suggestions for improving the experience for our target population on social platforms and internal processes
Learn and become proficient in internal software systems
Assist with preparing digital media campaign performance reports
Other duties as needed
FITNESS CENTER ASSISTANTS FWS roles in the Athletics Department
Essential Duties for FWS Fitness Center Assistants:
Assist at the reception desk, greeting students, faculty, and staff entering office
Assists staff in the day-to-day functions of the office
Provides support on various projects and assignments as needed
Provides general office support including but not limited to filing, faxing, photocopying, and data entry
Check members/guest in through mind/body app
Schedule personal training and other service appointments for PFT trainers
Equipment maintenance
Oversight of sports lab rules are being upheld by members and guest
Give equipment orientations to new members/guests (operation/safety)
Other duties as needed
TRANSFER CENTER ASSISTANTS FWS Roles in the Transfer Center
Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, the Transfer Ambassador acts as the CCC student representative to prospective students, current students, faculty, staff, and the public.
Provides transfer mentorship for up to 25 currently enrolled students.
Helps guide current students towards CCC resources (College Advisor, Transfer Center, DAC, Tutoring, Wellness, etc.).
Answers questions that students may have about student life at one of the City Colleges of Chicago.
Provides information about university partnerships and how to enroll.
Encourages student participation in CCC transfer and university partner events.
Participates in and supports the execution of on-campus transfer activities.
Copies materials used for transfer fairs, workshops and conferences.
Sets a positive/supportive introduction to the transfer student experience for new and returning students.
Other duties as needed
Additional Minimum Qualifications
Commits to supporting students towards academic and transfer success.
Major and Top 10 colleges/universities have been declared/decided.
Promotes a positive role model for transfer students.
Must complete the Transfer Leadership Series or equivalent transfer training.
Prior mentorship/tutoring experience is helpful, but not required.
