Corporate Counsel, Commercial Litigation
Under the supervision of the Deputy General Counsel and Senior Legal Counsel, Litigation, this role includes handling commercial litigation, investigations, and negotiation of resolutions to commercial matters on behalf of the company. This role also counsels the business on routine matters related to the resolution of commercial disputes.
Responsibilities
Manage offensive and defensive commercial litigation through the litigation lifecycle, including conducting internal investigations, responding to demands, and negotiating resolutions
Formulate and drive strategy on pending and threatened claims and litigation
Investigate, assess and advise on or directly respond to pre-litigation claims and disputes, including providing practical advice on risk, claim, litigation and regulatory issues to internal teams
Review and assist with discovery requests associated with commercial litigation
Partner with and manage outside counsel and vendors on commercial litigation matters
Review and comment on briefs and motions prepared by outside counsel
Attend depositions, mediations, hearings and trials; and in some instances, be the primary handling of same
Assist with analysis of insurance coverage issues
Research and interpret laws, rulings, and regulations impacting the business
Provide advice, counsel, and training to non-lawyer staff
Qualifications
2+ years of experience
Juris Doctor degree licensed by a state bar
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently
Excellent project management skills
Excellent analytical, negotiation, interpersonal, and problem‑solving skills
Outstanding communication skills with the ability to communicate legal advice within all levels of the organization, including to non‑lawyers
Demonstrable capacity to identify and resolve legal issues
