is looking for a

Mechanical Systems Technician (HVAC & Boiler Operations)

to join our Operations Services team at our Coronado Naval Base Energy Center.

The Mechanical Systems Technician performs skilled operations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of boiler, HVAC, and mechanical systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient facility performance.

The essential functions of the position include:

Operate, monitor, and maintain high-pressure steam boilers, hot water boilers, split systems, and HVAC units

Interpret readings on gauges, meters, and digital controls to ensure safe, efficient operation

Adjust system controls to meet real-time heating, cooling, and process demands

Record operational data in logs and digital work order systems

Maintain boilers, compressors, air handlers, pumps, and related equipment

Conduct water treatment for boiler and other water systems; analyze results and adjust chemicals as required

Perform HVAC diagnostics including refrigerant pressure checks, airflow measurements, and electrical testing

Maintain steam lines, traps, strainers, insulation, and distribution systems

Service and maintain split systems, package units, ventilation systems, and air distribution components

Perform diagnostic tests on lubricants, fuels, oils; sample and submit for analysis

Maintain air compressors, pneumatic systems, and associated controls

Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues to ensure minimal downtime

Perform general building maintenance including basic carpentry, plumbing, and electrical tasks

Work rotating on-call schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays

Respond to after-hours service calls to maintain operational readiness

Document work progress and effectively communicate system conditions to supervisors

Follow safety protocols, obtain permits, conduct hazard analyses, and ensure PPE compliance

Perform other duties as assigned by management

Your background includes:

High School Diploma or GED

Vocational/technical training in HVAC, boiler operation, or mechanical systems

5 years of related experience in boiler, HVAC, or mechanical systems

EPA 608 Certification, required

Basic computer skills including data entry, work orders, and daily logs

OSHA 10, NFPA 70, and arc flash training (or ability to complete within 3 months)

Experience with mechanical and electrical systems

A bonus to have:

Associate's or technical degree in HVAC, mechanical systems, or related field

10 years of related experience in boiler operations, HVAC, or energy management

Experience with steam systems, ventilation, and hot water systems.

Experience in preventative and predictive maintenance programs

Ability to perform root cause analysis and corrective action development

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Hourly pay range: $38.26 to $45.00, commensurate with experience
