About the role We are working with a Real Estate Investment Company on their search for a strong VP of Accounting that will partner with the CFO and oversee all aspects of fund accounting and financial reporting. This individual will play a critical role in leading and developing the internal fund accounting team and managing accounting across joint ventures and development projects. Their ideal candidate
must have
5+ years of progressive experience in a Real Estate, REIT, Private Equity, or Joint Venture Company and a CPA license.
Responsibilities
Oversee all aspects of fund accounting and financial reporting, including asset value calculations, financial statements, fee accruals, and P&L allocations.
Review and provide final sign-off on quarterly and annual financial statements, supporting schedules, and footnotes.
Establish, implement, and monitor accounting workflows and internal controls executed by internal staff and external service providers.
Lead, mentor, and grow the internal fund accounting team while managing relationships with outsourced accounting partners.
Manage capital activity (capital calls and distributions) and maintain accurate waterfalls and investor allocation schedules.
Coordinate annual audit processes and ensure timely delivery of all required documentation.
Continuously evaluate, enhance, and streamline internal procedures to improve accuracy, efficiency, and oversight.
Partner with onboarding, operations, and technology teams to optimize client onboarding and reporting processes.
Direct accounting operations across multiple entities, joint ventures, and development projects.
Oversee month-end and year-end close, financial consolidations, and GAAP-compliant reporting.
Develop and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and process enhancements to support institutional-grade financial operations.
Administer the accounting system (Yardi), ensuring data integrity, efficient reporting, and system alignment across teams.
Manage audit, tax, and lender reporting requirements, including financial packages, loan compliance, and capital draw submissions.
Lead budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis across all portfolios.
Support investor reporting, due diligence processes, and project-level financial analysis for acquisitions and development.
Oversee equity fund leverage facilities, including loan monitoring, interest payments, compliance reporting, and paydown activity.
Review investment activity and maintain comprehensive investment performance records.
Prepare cash forecasts and manage fund-level operating expenses.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting or Finance (Master’s Degree preferred)
Experience with Yardi ERP is required.
5+ years’ experience in Real Estate, Private Equity, REIT, or Joint Venture
CPA License preferred.
Public Accounting experience preferred.
